He has an AR-15.
Simply shoot the lock.
Door now (sadly) unlocked.
What the solution(s)? I'm just trying to come up with some ideas to solve this problem. Maybe there is not a one size fits all solution. Maybe it's a combination of human and engineering controls.

Give me a fricking break. It's not like that was the last $40 billion the country has to spend, adn these awful scenarios are the only time people like you pretend to care about mental health let alone claim you want additional spending on it.
What an odd hill to die on here. Some people actually do care about the mental healthcare system in America. It has been seriously lacking since the 1960's when they closed most of the hospitals and set people loose with the expectation that they take their medicine on their own.

How do you just run into a school nowadays
My kids school is always locked, but it's also a bunch of glass doors, it's not exactly difficult to get in if you wanted to.

and why wasn’t school on lockdown with murder suspect running wild close by?
quote:I haven't seen that at any schools here in North Texas
Every school I’ve gone in in the last 5 years has big fences
quote:Again, you can easily bust through the door if you wanted to, and what good is the camera going to do?
most doors from outside you have to be buzzed in and there are cameras all over the place

Not locking people inside spreading wild propaganda about a cold for over 2 years would have been a great start.

The shooter is identified as 18yr old Salvador Ramos

reports seem to say 13 more students in hospital.
Unreal.
Unreal.

I think the bigger issue is that he was crazy.
That doesn’t change the situation.
If he was brought here across the southern border illegally, it is time to have a hard conversation on the topic.
If he was crazy, it isn’t a good idea to allow unvetted crazy people into the country, right?
Maybe he was simply born here though.

Well I assume not magic or telaportation
the kids could have been at recess or something..you cant put them into bubbles..this is horrible.
my wife just picked up our 7yo from school so this strikes close to home.

Hard to believe he could hurt/kill at least 28 with a hand gun.

I agree but that's a long term solution and school shooting have been happening forever.

frick him. This is horrible. People send their kids to school expecting it to be to be an as safe environment as possible and then there is some worthless little prick who somehow justifies going into a school to shoot students and for what?
This is a parents worst nightmare. Sick

Is OP still accurate? How many dead? Shooter dead?
This makes me sick to my stomach.

They need anonymous teachers or other school employees to conceal and carry. This is horrible and inexcusable.
Probably would not have helped in this scenario. That doesn't mean that we don't try something, but I don't think there's a real good answer for these.

If he is an illegal immigrant who was brought here as a child across the border, it is about time we have a hard conversation about immigration into this country.
Yeah, that’s the issue, all these home grown immigrant school shooters.
Jesus Christ, Scruffy.

Last I heard ABC was reporting that Governor Abbot said 14 dead.

Son had teacher in high school who had a handgun hidden in the ceiling of his classroom. They had some yahoo’s go hunting on school grounds, he got to it in seconds.
