So in central Texas egg prices are $3.98/dozen…about $1.25 per dozen more than their normal prices from a couple years ago. Took my dad to breakfast the other day and a local breakfast place had a sign that said all egg plates were an additional $3. I couldn’t care less but to frick the customer that much over .10 per egg is flat out screwing the public for no reason. I actually overheard someone complaining to a manager about the unnecessary gouge.

Baw, then open a breakfast place and charge $.10 an egg. You'll be OT rich in no time.

You do realize there is a delay in ordering and pricing at restaurants right?

I.E., even when egg prices were high at the store, the bulk orders from restaurants were already placed at lower cost.

Restaurants can’t just print new menus on a whim and eggs aren’t positioned as a “market price” item, so restaurants just took the hit for a short bit to try to ride it out.

Eventually they had place their bulk order for the future and egg prices had skyrocketed, so it’s either print all new menus or add a small fee to cover just that item without new menus.

Chains can survive due to their scale, but local mom and pop places probably had no choice, raise prices for a bit or remove eggs from the menu.

Now on the next bulk order, prices are back down to normal and they can just remove that surcharge.

Restaurants already operate on thin margins…eggs are in almost every baked good as well so the high cost probably hurt breakfast places and bakeries even more than others

Trump's America.

Did they charge extra for measles exposure or removal of Mexicans from the kitchen?

I would be willing to bet that egg producers are not making any more than they made before the “great egg crisis”. Typically, supplu\y chain and retailers are where inflation strike.

There's this in the news this morning.

CNN article Cal-Maine investigated arse 3rd quarter net income tripled over last year
quote:

Shares of Cal-Maine Foods, the largest U.S. egg producer, fell in after-hours trading Tuesday after the company acknowledged it is being investigated by the antitrust division of the U.S. Department of Justice.

Ridgeland, Mississippi-based Cal-Maine said it received notice of the investigation into egg price increases last month. Cal-Maine said it is cooperating with the investigation.

The company’s shares fell more than 4% in after-hours trading.

Cal-Maine said its third quarter net income more than tripled to $508.5 million compared to the same period a year ago. The profit, of $10.38 per share, also fell short of analysts’ forecast of a $10.72 per-share profit.

yep, I voted for a candidate who is doing exactly what he said he would.

Even if I don't necessarily agree with it.

We now import eggs from other countries, Turkey being one of them.

We import more eggs from China and Canada than we do turkey.

One of the leading companies shipping us eggs is IKEA group.

We also export more eggs than we import. We are the 2nd largest exporter of eggs.

And the amount of imported eggs actually decreased from 2023-2024.

If you don't want imported eggs, don't buy them. Eggland doesn't use imported eggs.

And for the op.

When I got tired of spending $15-$20 on lunch I stopped eating out for lunch. I just bring shite from home. That’s what you do when you don’t like the prices.
