You put yourself in that risk, Everytime you drive.

You’re right. I do.

But you know what? I have a lot better chance in a car accident if I’m in a vehicle over being on a 10 pound bike.

Think of it this way. When you see a bicyclist on a roadway, imagine it's a loved one. I bet you'll do better.

I’ve never had an issue with bikers. Sure, they annoy the frick out of me. But I don’t get pissed or try to frick with them or hit them. I just pass them up.

That doesn’t change the fact that they are a bottleneck and create a potential problem anytime someone comes up on them. I mean it’s simple fricking math.

I don’t quite understand what you’re trying to argue. All I’ve said was that bikers create an unnecessary bottleneck and create a potential problem. It’s a cold hard fact.

I’m not arguing legality. I’m not saying frick them get off the road. I’m simply pointing out a cold hard fact

Yet you are putting yourself at risk by being on the road with others. Do you walk on sidewalks? Through parking lots?

Yes, biking is slightly more dangerous than being in a vehicle. Mostly because of the safety features of a vehicle. There are fewer accidents with bikes but they’re more likely to be fatal. However, walking is more dangerous than both.

You do know that it is far more dangerous to travel under the speed of traffic, regardless of speed limit, than to drive over the speed of traffic, right?

Slightly more dangerous? You're fricking delusional. Are the safety features you mention the thousands of pounds of steel?

Why was that guy riding a bike on Angola Hwy? No shoulder, 55-70mph cars, blind turns, hills, bridges, he was going 15. Darwin award candidate

It is legal for a cyclist to ride there, unless a minimum speed is posted it is legal to go as slow as you want, there is no problem if the drivers do what they are legally required to do. Maybe the solution is to have mandatory prison sentences for drivers that hit cyclist like some states have for hitting highway construction workers.

Agreed to an extent. Still a right to bike on the road. It's everyone's responsibility to do so safely and correctly, however, in America it's silly how drivers in a vehicle get absurdly upset about having to negotiate a bicycle.

Yes. When counting number of trips against the likelihood of death. The difference isn’t as much as you would think.

Never questioned the legality. Unfortunately for you, and for buddy, people don’t do what they’re legally required to do.

So sometimes you have to look past our human laws and look to the laws of numbers, physics, and chance.

Our laws waiver and change over time. The laws of numbers, physics, and chance are forever constant.

Some people are more thrill seeking than I am. Some are more trusting in others than I. But I trust reality. And I trust numbers.

And reality and numbers tell me that riding a 10 pound bike down a road where I’ll encounter vehicles driven by the most distracted and attention deficit group of people in our entire history isn’t just a bad idea. It’s a death wish.

I posted earlier, it is probably because A. it's a "scenic" road that offers variety. and B. It is probably not overly traveled, especially on Saturday mornings.

But that won't do anything and that's the point that a lot of us have been trying to make. Humans are humans. If cyclists get on roads with vehicles moving significantly different speeds than they are, they will continue to die.

You can't regulate or legislate human beings acting like human beings out of the equation. As long as humans are piloting the bikes and piloting the cars, they will collide, and the cyclists will lose. It doesn't really matter what the law says on the legality of the matter or the penalty for hitting a cyclist is.

What matters is that humans are only marginally intelligent apes and physics is a cruel and unforgiving mistress.

You can say that about driving and walking too.

Sure. My main point is that drivers of vehicles take everything for granted. They're in charge mentality. It's been ingrained in motorists minds to only think of other 4 wheel vehicles.

When at the end of the day, you're merely passenger in a 2 ton piece of metal that is defying the physics of how fast a human body should move to begin with.

Unless someone is inconvieninced. Then it’s perfectly fine to mow someone down. They were in the wrong for being here in he first place. They should know better than to be in someone’s way. Who cares if they have a family. Or kids? Not as important as an impatient driver.

Yeah, and you know where I don't walk? THE frickING ROAD. You wanna guess why I have managed to walk and not get run over by a car? Even if it were legal for me to share the road, guess where I wouldn't walk.

The stats don’t just count walking on the road. Although people often do it in neighborhoods. And runners do it in every city. They do count walking through parking lots and on sidewalks too. Don’t risk your life man. Stay inside and order your groceries through amazon.
