That doesn’t mean it’s the fault or “responsibility” of a victim not to be hit being someone being a shite driver. That’s bullshite
Good if you're not willing to take responsibility for your own survival refer to my earlier post on life insurance for your loved one's.
The issues here are unique to the bicycle/driver situation and until a solution is reached bodies WILL pile up. The bicyclist today was in the right and had every right to be on that road. That doesn't make him any less dead. The family is still without a father and grandfather.

It really is simple when you take the emotions out of it.
What causes these problems? The variance in speed. When you have one person going 15 mph and the speed limit is 55, you just created a bottleneck.
When you create a bottleneck, you create a potential situation each and every time someone comes up to that bottleneck.
If there’s no bottleneck, there’s no problem.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a bike, a tractor, an 18 wheeler, or grandma out on a Sunday drive. The bottleneck is always the issue.
If you can’t go the speed of traffic you have no reason to be in that traffic. All you’re doing is creating potential problems.
This goes for left lane campers. Bikers in the road. Tractors put putting along. Doesn’t matter.
Just because it’s legal to do doesn’t make it a smart thing to do.

I’m driving my car down a straight road going 15 in a 55. Now, every car that comes up on me has to change what they’re doing. They have to slow down, pass me, whatever.
Me, the driver of the car, am forcing everyone else to react to my driving speed, which puts them and myself at danger whenever they do what they have to do.
Just like on the interstate. The car going below the speed of traffic is exponentially more dangerous than the car going above the speed of traffic.
I see. Your imaginary world is full of great drivers doing exactly what they should. Everything you said is part of driving.
Driving a vehicle is being proactive, not reactive.

We can start by proactively not causing a bottleneck in a road.

not reactive.
Drivers wouldn’t need to react to the bottleneck if the person being the bottleneck was proactive and chose not to cause a bottleneck.
We can go round and round all we want.

Failed logic. Do you assume all roads are clear on your morning commute? Or do you plan ahead? At 5 am, I'm sure your drive is substantially easier than at rush hour.

No. Failed logic is saying “share the road”

What does this have to do with anything? It’s cut and dry. Which situation is safe. Which is not.
Me driving my Jeep down river road at any time of day going 15 mph.
Me driving my Jeep down river road at any time of day going the posted speed limit.
If I did both 1,000 times, which would you bet money on having more accidents occur during?

Is it logical and proactive to choose a mode of transportation that inevitably creates challenges for the majority of other motorists to deal with and that provides you with virtually no effective protection from their errors, large or small?

Because of inattentive drivers.

Inattentive drivers.
I don't run into vehicles going slower than me. Do you?

I need not worry, if drivers were conditioned to expect the unexpected, which happens a great deal on the road while operating a vehicle.

Well, until we hit each other and the cyclist dies bloody in a mass of twisted bicycle.
If you're ALWAYS going to lose the collision, putting yourself in a position to be in that collision is just not smart, no matter how right you might be.
Have none of you frickers ever heard the parable of the scorpion and the frog? Why are you shocked when the scorpion stings someone?

Okay. Doesn’t change the fact that a bike will lose 100 times out of 100.
Why do you trust your fellow man so much? I sure as frick don’t. Which is why you’ll never catch me riding a bike down river road.
Legal or not, I don’t care. I DONT TRUST YOU ENOUGH TO RISK MY LIFE.

Okay? So you agree that it’s dangerous to ride 15 in a 55, not because of you, but because of others.
So what are you arguing?

I also don’t get run over by cars on my bike. But my former employer buddy sure as frick did.

You're placing the blame on your inability and trust of others to navigate the roadways correctly..doesn't matter if it's a bike, a construction barrel, whatever.
You put yourself in that risk, Everytime you drive.
Think of it this way. When you see a bicyclist on a roadway, imagine it's a loved one. I bet you'll do better.

This is a beautiful country. More people need to spend more time outdoors. America is being ruined by fatass, video game playing assholes who complain every time someone gets in their way.
See a cyclist on the road, so fricking what?, spend a extra few seconds and pass him when possible. What do you asswipes do when you see a little old lady walking in front of you on a sidewalk? Push her down and keep on walking?
I never understood the vitriol to cyclists in the South (mainly). Are you jealous of them that they have the energy to go out and exercise, while you're riding in your big SUV eating cheeseburgers?
This country doesn't deserve the shitheads that can't take time to slow down and have patience.
Seriously, what hurry could a 21 year old have been in on a Saturday morning?

Yep. It has wheels and an engine and is capable of doing the posted speed limit to avoid causing problems and it has airbags and a seat belt and crumple zones and engineering to protect me.
Does yours have a basket and a bell?

Nah. I won't, and neither will the next guy who plows into a bike. That's why you're completely irrational when you insist that you're still going to go ahead and ride your bike on a road where vehicles will be moving 2 to 3 times your speed just because you're allowed to.
