It’s about 6-7 hours from the area he’s talking about to the Outer Banks or the Emerald Ciast of Florida. Not much further, if any than you Louisiana people have drive to get to a decent beach. Those two areas have the best beaches of anywhere in the continental US.

The North Carolina is great threads need to stop. I'm already considering the move since my wife has an offer to transfer t9 Charlotte. These threads aren't helping with my want to stay.

Western NC isn't bad but it's clear you've never traveled outside the south. There are many better places to live than Appalachia. The outer banks are decent beaches, but far from great.

Having just moved back to Bama, I miss it already up there. The hell with this sorry state. Can't wait to move back.

I was driving on a little narrow back road up there one time and came to a curve so sharp there was a mirror sticking out of the cliff so you could see if someone was coming in the other direction

True. Plus no state income tax.

Some of the worst hillbillies I’ve ever met in that area. They don’t call it the trashy mountains for no reason. Your expectations are too low

People are nice AF here too. We were standing in line for tickets to Dollywood and the lady in front of us asked us if we wanted to get in for free because she had season passes. Saved me $150

I like it here, for the most part. Low pay/few opportunities in my industry, but low COL match, so it's relative. Scenery is great, weather is pleasant.

The schools suck dick, though.

Alot of my thoughts exactly...have Zillow'd around to look for 20+ acres on a mountain...lots of places reasonably priced. Crazy hillbillies are just fine w me, we'd fit right in.

This is the plan after we travel around the US for 6-7 years (my wife will be the traveling nurse).

Have you ever seen the waves at Hatteras Island? There are still large portions of that part of the outer banks that are National Park and not built on.

I love where there's a rocky shore line and good wave action, but without solid rocks, the outer banks have some of the most beautiful yet soothing waves south of Maine (and north of Mexico)

It’s terrible here aka we don’t need more people that think differently moving into this area that get grand ideas that they need to make it like the shitty place they left.

Only if you are poor, it’s a private school city for sure.

Or if you somehow manage to get in the lottery schools or move on Signal.

Likewise. Wife and I are looking for a cabin right now in the Blue Ridge/Ellijay area of North Georgia or Western NC for a weekend getaway and rental income.

Long term plan will be to buy at least 100 acres in SW NC or NW South Carolina. I'd much rather deal with hillbillies than the smug shitbags and "culcha" that tend to populate larger cities.

Lots of Hillbillies but they’re super nice people from what I’m experiencing

you must be white. lol

cause i did not have that experience. was hunting in the East TN hills and just about everywhere i went, people stared at me like they'd never seen a black person before. they weren't rude, but they weren't nice either. they just looked at me like i was a ghost. i wondered how many of them had left the county before.
