Right. He'll sit in a largely segregated death row cell for years while the delays on his mandatory appeals run.
A much, MUCH, rougher sentence would have been to stick him in gen pop in South Carolina's penitentiary, which I suspect has a large black population. Still a death sentence. But it would have been handled much more swiftly and more in line with the agony he caused his victims and their families

The sad thing is, he doesn't even acknowledge or understand that what he did was wrong -- he thinks he's some sort of martyr.
