re: Duke U. surgeons refuse a 14-year-old girl a kidney transplant b/c she's not vaxxed.

polio and meningitis vaccines actually have a meaningful impact on 14 year olds
oh, and she already has protection from prior infection, yet they're trying to force her into getting an outdated and increasingly ineffective vaccine already shown to be of little to no value to minors

How can you call it a vaccine when it cannot stop you from either catching or spreading the infection it’s supposed to prevent?

you try so damn hard to be a contrarian, it’s nauseating. This story sucks, and she shouldn’t have to get the clot shot if her family doesn’t want her to

required to be fully vaccinated with a long list of vaccines.
Also in the OP she had COVID and recovered. So she has more broad immunity to COVID than a person that just received the mRNA vaccine and never got in contact with COVID. She can produce an immune response to many COVID proteins not just the spiked protein.
In your judgment with natural immunity and all the other vaccines on your list would you permit her to move forward with the kidney transplant?

There are many vaccines that have little value in terms of actually lowering risk in any measurable amount. . Varicella being one of them with a host of others. Still going to be required

This has nothing to do with politics. Before covid existed a child not vaccinated for polio or meningitis etc would also be denied and it moves down the list.
In fact, this thread and reaction is the politicizing of the issue
So you’re saying it’s based on medical science? If that’s the case, that would mean these doctors are:
(1) unaware the COVID vaccine cannot prevent her from either catching or spreading the virus.
And
(2) she already has natural immunity since she’s already had the virus.
So either these doctors didn’t know their asses from a hole in the ground or their doing it based on politics.

The next child willing to do whatever it takes to get an organ transplant. When you already only have a very limited supply….it must go where they think it will have the best outcome. Those in charge of donor networks think those fully vaccinated will have the best outcomes.

No. They just can’t come up with a valid rebuttal so they give a worthless downvote instead.

She could have had chicken pox as well and the varicella vaccine would still be required for the transplant
This is where doctors need to pull back the reigns from administrators and do doctoring.

This. I’m not vaxxed. I caught covid once and haven’t gotten it again nor have I had the flu. 2 years going strong

You are talking about a finite resource that they will never ever have enough of. Making strict requirements that give even a .00000000000001% better chance of survival makes sense because the item at hand will always have someone else that needs it.
If organs were being wasted due to the requirements being too stringent I would 100% agree with you

But one of these "vaccines" is not like the others.
Because it's an mRNA vaccine? Wouldn't the Novavax vaccine be an option that isn't an mRNA vaccine?

The vaxx probably lowers her chance of survival and to all the kids receiving transplants after her. It's counter to the goal you are tying to achieve.

This is why I make fun of y'all. The OT opinion has shifted from "immunocompromised people need the vaccine" to "the vaccine deletes your immune system"

I take the approach that the doctors should provide a recommendation and the medical reason for the recommendation and then let the patient make an informed decision (even if the patient chooses to make an bad decision based on bad information obtained elsewhere).
