Many years from now I will still be cleaning up the mess that was made by my drywall crew.

I lucked up and found this guy, Eddie or actually Eduardo 225.620.5453. I had to wait 3 weeks but definately worth it. Very professional and just a friendly guy and didnt try to increase the price once he started the job.

Fyi hanging drywall is terrible on a persons body. Something about slinging around 4x8 sheets all day for a career just wreaks havoc on joints.
So what I'm getting at is the people you find to hang drywall are in a state of mind that it makes sense to destroy ones body for a living.

the Mexicans that did my house were phenomenal. But damn man... they kept this old, filthy microwave in my soon to be living room they used to heat up burritos. Took two gotdamn weeks to get the smell of that microwave out of my house.

Painters will give the drywall subs a run for their money all day every day.

Eh. He quoted over the phone based on number of sheets of drywall I estimated. He quoted $1,600, which I thought was really reasonable given the extent of the job.
They installed more than I had originally estimated. I forget exactly how much more, but it was significant. And they did a good job despite a few hiccups noted above. So I was okay with $2,000 for the job. I probably could have pushed the issue more if I wanted to be an arse. But overall, I was okay with it.

You have to keep in mind most of these people are barely functioning alcoholics or pill poppers

Two Mexican guys were subbed out to me to do drywall and painting repairs following the April, 2011 tornadoes in Alabama.
They cut out some sections in a ceiling, replaced, muddled, and painted all within a few hours. They used heat guns or some kind of dryer to get surfaces ready to paint. I was amazed at how fast and efficient they were with good results.

This is true. I've got a good friend I grew up with that did drywall for about 25 years and he can hardly walk now, has to use a cane for stability and his back is shot. This all took place in his mid 40's and he's now 65. He's had some miserable years that won't be getting any better.

I mean no manual labor construction is "good" for someone over 40 really. Drywall is nothing compared to things like masonry and tile. Laying brick pavers is one of the hardest things I've ever done, drywall is nothing compared to that.
If you are over 40 and doing the hard part of construction like lifting heavy material all the time then you have done a lot of things wrong in your life. You hire some young guys to do the hard manual stuff, you run the crew or crews, and you do all the customer work.
My sister had a guy that was literally 80 lay tile for her last year. He was literally on his hands and knees laying. I walked in one day and said "WTF" out loud when I saw that guy working.

Everybody hates drywall guys and painters, but bricklayers are huge assholes too

Bricklayers at least have a reason to be aholes. They have to work outside. They have to work when the weather is nice and take off when the weather sucks. Drywall and painters work whenever they hell they are sober.

Yeah but that doesn't mean you have to brick right over an electrical guys box when the plans clearly show an outdoor patio hookup. Dicks

I can do drywall. I actually kind of enjoy it. I'll charge you whatever they're charging you but I'll actually show up on time and do the job right.
