Dropping Harley Davidson sales a sign of upcoming weakness in collector cars?

HD announced today it will closing its plant in MO in response to dwindling sales. Is this the front edge of an overall dropoff as Boomers get too old and start dying?

I predict many classic American cars from the 70’s and earlier will start dropping off in value to some degree. For example, how many of you would like to pay top dollar for a restored 1965 Chevrolet Impala? I think the buyers are starting to fade out.

I would love it. There are so many American muscle cars that I want to own but I am not paying current values for them.

We need a recession so my buying power will go up.

All I know is I'll ride till my chaps are stuck to the asphalt.

Keep your minivan moms away from the stoplights or they'll get a freebee vibration courtesy of my '74 hog.

Motorcycle sales are down because texting and distracted driving has made the streets much more dangerous for motorcyclists.

If anything, the market for collector cars will see an increase because guys will buy cars instead of motorcycles because they are safer and are a better investment.

Look to the market for model T's then cars from successive generations.

When I was a kid, the old guys fixed up model T's and A's. Then the 50's cars grew into vogue. The Mustang seemed like a collector car almost from the start, but you see the pattern. Guys in their 50's and 60's bid up cars from their youth.

Can’t wait to restore a 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse one day.

A huge amount of gen-xers first learned to drive in late 60s and 70s cars. The HD'sgot replaced by the rice rocket bikes and only old people rode the HD's. Like always the price will swing like the pendulum on a grandfather clock. Highs and lows.

It’s more likely due to the brand growing a bit stale and failing to modernize. Harley’s from the 70s and 80s look pretty much the same as they do today. They’ve also gotten pretty damn expensive.

I used to ride a lot along time ago. Didn't even own a car for a couple of years. I gave it up because of all the distracted idiots on the road not seeing me.

I can't even imagine getting on the road on one these days.

Would love to ride a classic motorcycle or modern equivalent. Problem is they are death traps. Say what you will, I don't care how careful you are or skilled you think you might be, there is no margin for error on a motorcycle. Zero.

I had a HD for about a year 10 years ago and got rid of it for the same reason you did. I can't even imagine having one today.

I’ve forgone my dreams of owning an HD opting to get my private pilots license. Much safer than owning a motorcycle IMO
