Photographer for children

Posted by 385 Tiger on 11/12/25 at 7:37 am
Can anyone recommend a photographer in the Baton Rouge area that takes good newborn and child photos. I've talked to several that have reasonable sitting fees but want a fortune for the digital images. I don't mind paying for their time to take the photos and make any edits or adjustments necessary, but I'm not going to them and paying $20+ every time I want a print for an aunt.

Alternatively, what have you paid? Maybe my expectations are unreasonable. One I looked at was $800+ for a shoot ($350ish) and the balance for rights.

At the end of it, I'd like the .jpgs so I can print them where and when I want, or use them in a digital frame.

Thanks!
This is a great post. It's very sad that the spectrum of what is classified as hazing is now so broad that it includes a lot of what you described. In particular sober rides program, cleaning the house, being yelled at, and beer drinking.
I don't vote for taxes, renewals included. When I believe the money I pay is being spent wisely, I will reconsider, but not before.
Jeff is at best a caricature of a conservative.
I recall through early 2000s, every house would have an after game party. Over a series of years, the admins made it progressively harder to have events on campus. Security requirements, catering requirements, sign off and approval, all got harder. This is why bid night and exchanges are now mostly off campus now. Tailgates were a relief valve for this. If there was no after party, go tailgate. They used to be scattered, some at houses, some around campus, but the groups eventually settled into the parade ground. Now you have what you have and everyone is trying to unwind it to get back to what was. I'm not sure the students want to go back to their houses. I guess we will see.

New Orleans has the government it deserves, not the government it needs.
Agree regarding there being too much piped in music played at too high a decibel level. I'm reply to add that it's almost impossible to hear what the miced refs are saying too. It used to be clear when they cut to their feed after a call, but it and the announcer all sound distorted now.

What did they charge you per square for standing seam?

Menards has food prices on good. Heavy duty modular shelving.
What is the limit and what is the hold period before you can transfer out?
There are some really good plumbers in baton rouge. But one of the problems I've had with the good ones is that they either can't get to me for a week because they're booked up or they don't have the equipment to do heavier duty jobs such as cleaning drain pipe and such. I have had very good luck and received very fair prices over the last few years with Roto-Rooter.

re: Generator question.

Yep. The one thing I did when I installed my generator, and I don't understand why more people don't do this, is install a whole home disconnect between the meter and the ATS. This allows a few things first and foremost, it allows you to easily test your ATS and simulate a power outage. My unit runs automatically for 15 minutes once each week. But every other month or so when I think about it and I'm otherwise milling about in the backyard, I flipped the transfer switch to simulate a power outage and run the unit under load for between 30 minutes and an hour. This ensures the entire thing gets up to temperature and if there are any problems I'll know them sooner rather than during an emergency. The stress on the unit is very different when it's run under load versus when it is run simply to exercise it once a week. And second, the whole home disconnect allows you to do maintenance on the ATS and any other service you may have without having the light company come out and pull the meter. It's a very minor upgrade whenever you're installing the generator. Do it
I voted for Landry, but he is not the Republican I wanted. I am more disappointed than I could have imagined. He is a caricature of a conservative southern governor, beholden to himself first and secondarily to the plaintiffs attorneys who funded his campaign, and I have seen nothing to indicate that he is interested in discussing serious solutions to our state's serious problems.
This is the OT. What do you call affordable?
Ah. That makes sense. Thanks for the tidbit.

What's going on with Dow Chemical

Posted by 385 Tiger on 5/15/25 at 9:42 pm
What's going on with Dow Chemical? it's P/E is through the roof. It doesn't appear to be covering its dividends through continuing operations. I haven't dug into the financials to deeply. Is something amiss?
Correct. Louisiana's unique legal tradition is most patent today in property, sales, and succession issues. But even those tend to get to the same place, albeit by a different path. The specific tort statutes are not, in practice, particularly different thank those in other states.
Our insurance rates are high because we have, on average, a poor, uneducated, highly litigious population. And the biggest driving issue of rates is really the third point. We have over twice as many claims per capita as other states. Insurers factor that into their rates.

The plaintiffs' bar will roll in at some point and talk about how they get fair shakes and justice for the injured. But ask yourself if the people of Louisiana really need over twice as much justice as everyone else in the country.
