The BBQ place near just north of Alexandria is pretty damn good.

As others mentioned, Billy’s and Bourques are both great

If you prefer rice and gravy in a casing.

Go to the original Billy in Opelousas, not the spin-offs

If you're going to Krotz Springs, just go to Billy's there. Opelousas is depressing.

Oh and Robertson Ham is after Terrell on I20, great bacon and jalepeno sausage.

1. French Market Express in Natchitoches for baked goods, pies, doughnuts, their meat pies are pretty good, too.

Agree 100%. If you like gingerbread, get one of their gingerbread men. Ain’t cheap, but worth it…

My friend makes that drive a lot. Most recently, last month. She stops at Buc-ee’s, some gas station in Natchitoches for meat pies, and Billys for chicken cracklings. She is quick to point out that she is stopping to buy stuff to bring us…not for her. Mmhm.

I would say Lea’s, as well.

Krotz Springs

Just reiterating stop and Billy's get the peperjack/boudin eggrolls, also underrated is the fried corn on the cob

and do NOT speed through Krotz Springs (or any of the other speed traps down 190)

Ah, OK. That makes sense. I can't deny I expected something much more sinister.

If you don’t stop at leas pies in lecombe you are crazy, they are unreal. The chocolate meringue pie maybe the best in the world, the lemon meringue is almost as good and the pecan pie is only outstanding.

The ham sandwich is really good but let’s be honest you go there for the pie. Call to make sure they are open today, it’s Monday but if it is open it’s the best 15 minute out if the way stop you will make this trip, bar none. You are going to want to take a pie or two home trust me.

In BR we like morning call beignets off college, right off interstate by Walmart. Get the long thin ones, particularly if you have kids, and frozen coffee au lait or regular.

Billy's in Opelousas will definitely be less crowded than the Krotz Springs location. So if you stop at Billy's in Opelousas, stop at Kartchner's in Krotz Springs.

It's not Buc-ee's, but their new stores in Carencro and Krot Springs are still a very decent stop.

They are building a new one in Opelousas. I am hoping to see a half dozen more all over south Louisiana at some point.

Texas Best Smokehouse in Longview

The BEST chopped beef sandwich you will ever eat.. They also have fried pies and every type of meat jerky and homemade candy you can think of. Clean bathrooms. A must stop on my frequent trips to Dallas.
