Third this recommendation. The fried pies he mentioned are no joke. There is a lot of good food being recommended from Boudin to Meat Pies, to pies from Lea's in Lecompte, but a chopped beef with an original fried pie would be a great way to kick it off, or wrap it up on the way back.

be careful with this. speed traps everywhere

Louisiana rules of the road to live by:
1. When entering a small town, do not go 1mph over the speed limit. Most of them are super shitty, with no tourism. So, the only way for the town to keep outside money is with speeding tickets.
2. The roads suck.
3. Use the 10% rule when not in conflict with rules 1 & 2. Not enough scratch in the game to worry about slightly over the speed limit.
- 35 -> 38, 45 -> 50, 55 -> 60, 70 -> 77, 75 -> 82
Stay at or below 10% over the speed limit and you're good.

As recommended, Natchitoches, Lecompte, Port Barre are all good food stops along the way.

Screw Krotz Springs, never give them a dime. Massive downhill bridge and drops speed limit to run dirty speed traps.

Port Barre is ~1 mile off Hwy 190. My definition of a 'slight detour'.

Regardless, the cheese bread is worth the drive.

Ya got me, I was thinking of Ronnie's.

Then, yes, hit up Billy's instead of Kartschner's.

How come there are never more than two cars at these random places seemingly in the middle of nowhere? What are they a front for?

Leas is closed today but stopped for the chopped beef sandwich, it's a great stop in Longview for gas, food, and a restroom

Can confirm. Having stopped there several times over the years but just recently got food there a couple of months ago.

Definitely one of the best I’ve had.

Get some pepperjack boudin balls at billys in opelousas then drive to rays boudin on hwy 182 on the south side of opelousas and get some boudin links.

The Texas Prison Museum in Huntsville was informative. If you choose that route.

Stop in Natchitoches. Go to Front Street which will be about 5 miles from the exit. Walk the river. There are some cool shops on the riverfront and a few good restaurants
