re: Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel: U.S. Must Stay Locked Down For 18 Months Until There's a Vaccine

There is no way to realistically prepare for that toll. That would realistically be the end of the American economic system. Societal revolution likely.
That’s not an exaggeration. A shutdown that long is not in any way feasible. This is why you can’t leave the decision up to doctors. Not to sound callous, but a few million dead is a bargain relative to that scenario.

Newest projections say 60k deaths...flu numbers...and you want to shut the country down for 18 months? Complete irrational horseshite.

I hate to say but it makes sense if you thought the initial shutdown was the right move. If we go back before a vaccine or cure than won’t it spread like the initial projections and this shutdown would be for nothing?
For the record I would not have shutdown everything. Isolate nursing homes, wear mask, wash hands, and recommend to vulnerable people to limit non required social gatherings.

Yes, and that’s a fundamental reason why that strategy is misguided.

It doesn’t make sense at all. Projections are bottoming out.

Wrong.

The projections are based on us remaining shutdown. I don’t know what would happen if we all go back to like it was before, but if this thing fizzles out even if we go back the shutdown will go down as a 10 trillion dollar mistake.

With the last name Emmanuel, those parents nailed it with what has to be three of the best names: Ari, Ezekiel and Rahm. Three penises, I’m sure, but great names!

These are the ones we'd been waiting for.

Great time to get the entire country dependent on the government. Never let a good crisis go to waste...

They know people are tired of this lockdown, and they know the country will be opening back up relatively soon. Of course, even when it does we are still going to have some degree of coronavirus related deaths. That's just reality. But this is their set up to say "You see. We told you it was too early to resume normal society. Next time you'll listen to us without challenging our opinions!"
Of course, I doubt Dr. Emanuel has much worry about paying his mortgage. Or getting his kids through college. Or simply just keeping the electricity on.

Meanwhile the flu has been killing people for how many years with a vaccine?
This is looking more and more like a take down of the economy and Trump.
I don't want to even think like that, it sounds crazy...
But those dr. Comments are insane
People in his position get paid regardless...he couldn't care less about the rest of us...

His idiotic statement should have been followed up with one simple question:
How is the country supposed to survive being shut down for a year and a half?

I don't consider myself conservative and even I think that's completely absurd.
