The only thing she’s more qualified for is to have a pulpit to spread lies from.

Hey bud.
Thanks for dropping by to white knight for Dr Catherine O’Neal. Are you her husband or son?

No. I’m just amazed at the outlandish comments people are making about Dr. O’Neal with zero evidence or corroborating facts.
Who is more qualified here in BR (or Louisiana, gulf coast, etc.) than she is to listen to regarding Covid? If you find one, do they have a materially different opinion?
Vilifying this woman for the Advocate’s clickbait headline and poor analogy when it’s clear to anyone that can read that she didn’t mean that anyone unvaccinated will die; is absurd.

Since you know her so well tell her not to straight up lie multiple times to the populace to bring data to back her statements

We had a similar guy here in North AL last year. He was the head doc of the major hospital in the area that owns 95% of the medical facilities in this part of the state.
The media loved him and would publish every word he would say at the press conferences. The bad part for him is that they published every word. His numbers NEVER added up. Covid numbers, hospital bed numbers, positive case numbers, pretty much anything to do with numbers. None of it added up. He would recite different shite every day. Hell, more than a few occasions he contradicted himself during the same damn press conference.
The media went right along and printed it without questioning any of it, not even when given the opportunity.
For some reason, those people on Twitter who dared point out the inconsistencies started getting blocked.
That's why people like your friend get questioned. That's why they aren't trusted.

Like I said, she’s a brilliant physician.
But she isn’t taking about patient care. She’s up there using emotional arguments in the name of medicine to get people to do something. I find that disgusting.
And I feel like I should clarify that I agree with her that most adults should get vaccinated. But this is little more than a propaganda technique employed to convince people to do so by using emotions over facts, and it makes me sad to see someone I used to hold in high regard stoop to that level.

Here in Louisiana, our head medical guy for Department of Health was named Alex Billioux. In the spring and early summer he was a good little puppet for our retarded governor, but as the dog days of summer dragged on Alex remembered his ethical training and oath after med school. So Alex decided to come clean with the numbers and told a press conference reporter on essentially a hot mic: "We have cooked the case numbers with multiples of Robert/Bob, James/Jim."
Guess who was no longer employed a month or so after his ethical revelation?

Here are some of her quotes taken from the article
If you can’t see she was completely unprofessional & let her emotions cloud her statements you just don’t want to see it .
quote:
A Baton Rouge infectious disease specialist gave a stark account Friday of the dangers of the coronavirus delta variant circulating through Louisiana, saying that it's causing children to lose their parents, pregnant women to lose their babies and that choosing vaccination is the only option to avoid more deaths.
How many women have had miscarriages due to Covid?
quote:
"I want to be clear after seeing what I've seen the past two weeks," O'Neal said. "We only have two choices: we are either going to get vaccinated and end the pandemic. Or we are going to accept death. A lot of it, this surge, and another surge, and possibly another variant."
Another variant is a good thing I thought? Doesn’t each variant get weaker?
quote:
She said that Our Lady of the Lake is being quickly overwhelmed by the latest surge of patients
Absolutely a lie, there are 563 people hospitalized state wide
quote:
"Delta variant is coming for our children," O'Neal said.
There are 9 deaths in the state from people under the age of 18
Total cases for ages under 18 is 12,525
quote:
O'Neal put it plainly: "if you don't choose the vaccine, you're choosing death."
So the Advocate got the headline just as she said it

Wait…What?!?! That’s a game changer! You’re right. The Advocate would never take a short quote out of context and put it in the title as to get someone to click on and read the article. There couldn’t possibly be more detail to what was said other than the 8 words quoted in the title. I should just start reading article headlines from now on to be fully informed. Thanks for the help.
I guess you were too busy failing at being witty to actually read the article like you suggest other people should do. Because the title is a direct quote from her in the article.
You fail at mansplaining.
You fail at being witty.
You fail at following your own advice.
Is there anything you’re actually good at?

See, at least this is a reasonable discussion of salient points. Let’s walk through it.
I’m no doctor and not privy to this statistic. I would think that added stress on a pregnant mother from Covid could cause miscarriages so it’s probably not zero. I too would like to know the answer to that question. Perhaps this would have been a great followup question for the “journalists” covering the story.
Again, I’m no doctor. I’ve repeatedly said to find me a more qualified doctor with an alternative viewpoint and I’d happily listen. As to the variants, I was under the impression that each variant had different characteristics which can make it better or worse for some groups. Again, not a doctor. I’ll leave that up to a virologist or infections disease physician to explain.
So you think that the doctor who as Chief Medical Officer (presumably) oversees OLOL is just up there making shite up. There’s no denying there’s been something fricked about the numbers since day 1, but you’re saying she’s lying when she says that the recent uptick in cases has stressed the infrastructure of OLOL. I doubt it but we can agree to disagree on that.
I took from her comments that the delta variant seems to have a higher chance of infecting children than previous variants. Again, not a doctor but it’s not outside the realm of possibility. We don’t have the recent data to analyze this for ourselves (at least I don’t).
Taking into consideration everything she said prior throughout the article, my take away was that she’s saying vaccinations keep people from getting harshest symptoms and without vaccinations we can’t get to herd immunity and therefore more people will die from the virus. Coupled with the poor burglar analogy, I admit it’s a bit over the top but not worth this much vitriol. But once again, find me a qualified physician who specializes in this shite who believes differently that Dr. O’Neal and I’m all ears. Trouble is, all I can find are Facebook only doctors who spout conspiracy theories and snip-its of data or partial quotes. If I’m picking a horse to back, I’m picking the credentialed, specialized physician over some random anesthesiologist or some baseball mom from LP who knows a nurse who is dating a guy who sells medical equipment to a surgeon on the North Shore.

Yes, absolutely. She has lied repeatedly about numbers over the past year and continues to do so. She said “Our hospitals are full” when they were not, for example. She says we are overwhelmed when we are not. She says we will have people we used to know in front of us and behind us at tiger stadium die. She says if you don’t choose the vaccine, you’re choosing death. Another lie. She knows it but thinks it is for the public good.
This fear mongering causes people to stay away from the hospital when they should be seen for other reasons. We have all been seeing this already. We’ve had people die because of delayed care for cholecystitis, all sorts of things because they were too scared to come in. We will see increased mortality and morbidity from more advanced cancer because of this. Those deaths are on the hands of her and people like her.
