Let's just get rid of the entire honorific. We waste enough time arguing this monthly on here alone to justify the change.
"California Sober" is the way to go. Don't miss the booze but once a year...when football season starts. Even that will pass by week 3.
Gotta give those baws credit, they are putting in work.
Why do you put refugees in quotes? Aren't these people the absolute definition of a refugee?

Indubitably

Aren’t we all eventually?

This is what my 16yo was given as well.

I’m sure your daughter will be fine, but prayers sent nonetheless.
OR, she’s right, the delta variant is materially worse for younger people/kids and that vaccinations help lower deaths from Covid (as evidenced by the UK data shown in another thread).

It might just be that she knows more about this and/or has access to more real-time data than the average OTer.
quote:

1. You didn’t answer his question. Why are you so afraid to do that?

No, I do not think she is fear mongering. I have said that some comments (coupled with the burglar analogy) were poorly chosen but (as I’ve said) I don’t believe she’s intentionally trying to cause fear thorough manipulation and exaggeration.
quote:

So you’re also a failure at maintaining consistent arguments. Because that’s not what you said yesterday

Which statement is contradictory?
That people are taking her comments out of context or not considering all of her comments before objecting?
That she’s a qualified, credentialed physician who is more qualified than most to speak on the topic?
Pointing out that when many on the OT object but have no facts to support them, they stood to making fun of the person’s looks and other absurdities?
Agreement that much info around Covid seems fricked up but rejecting that she’s a pawn of Obama or the New World Order (or some other conspiracy theory)?
I believe that she believes what she’s saying and is not a government stooge.
If I’ve learned anything over the last couple days it’s that statistics cannot be trusted and are clearly manipulated by the government with the direct intent to harm the average American. Worse, this fraud is being perpetrated on us by the physician community who are all liberal goons.
Check the thread correlating vaccinations with significantly lower deaths and get back to me.

Hopeful Doc laid out a reasoned argument and overall I agree. I just disagree that the language used is too hyperbolic. It’s sure seems that the countries who (for whatever reason) “chose” not to vaccinate, chose higher death rates relative to other countries who “chose” to vaccinate.
See, at least this is a reasonable discussion of salient points. Let’s walk through it.

quote:

How many women have had miscarriages due to Covid?

I’m no doctor and not privy to this statistic. I would think that added stress on a pregnant mother from Covid could cause miscarriages so it’s probably not zero. I too would like to know the answer to that question. Perhaps this would have been a great followup question for the “journalists” covering the story.

quote:

Another variant is a good thing I thought? Doesn’t each variant get weaker?

Again, I’m no doctor. I’ve repeatedly said to find me a more qualified doctor with an alternative viewpoint and I’d happily listen. As to the variants, I was under the impression that each variant had different characteristics which can make it better or worse for some groups. Again, not a doctor. I’ll leave that up to a virologist or infections disease physician to explain.

quote:

Absolutely a lie, there are 563 people hospitalized state wide

So you think that the doctor who as Chief Medical Officer (presumably) oversees OLOL is just up there making shite up. There’s no denying there’s been something fricked about the numbers since day 1, but you’re saying she’s lying when she says that the recent uptick in cases has stressed the infrastructure of OLOL. I doubt it but we can agree to disagree on that.

quote:

There are 9 deaths in the state from people under the age of 18
Total cases for ages under 18 is 12,525

I took from her comments that the delta variant seems to have a higher chance of infecting children than previous variants. Again, not a doctor but it’s not outside the realm of possibility. We don’t have the recent data to analyze this for ourselves (at least I don’t).

quote:

So the Advocate got the headline just as she said it

Taking into consideration everything she said prior throughout the article, my take away was that she’s saying vaccinations keep people from getting harshest symptoms and without vaccinations we can’t get to herd immunity and therefore more people will die from the virus. Coupled with the poor burglar analogy, I admit it’s a bit over the top but not worth this much vitriol. But once again, find me a qualified physician who specializes in this shite who believes differently that Dr. O’Neal and I’m all ears. Trouble is, all I can find are Facebook only doctors who spout conspiracy theories and snip-its of data or partial quotes. If I’m picking a horse to back, I’m picking the credentialed, specialized physician over some random anesthesiologist or some baseball mom from LP who knows a nurse who is dating a guy who sells medical equipment to a surgeon on the North Shore.

No. I’m just amazed at the outlandish comments people are making about Dr. O’Neal with zero evidence or corroborating facts.

Who is more qualified here in BR (or Louisiana, gulf coast, etc.) than she is to listen to regarding Covid? If you find one, do they have a materially different opinion?

Vilifying this woman for the Advocate’s clickbait headline and poor analogy when it’s clear to anyone that can read that she didn’t mean that anyone unvaccinated will die; is absurd.

quote:
At a minimum, she’s more qualified than anyone else on the OT to lecture you on this topic

Umm, not really.

Put your credentials up against hers. We’ll wait.
quote:

Who the hell is she to lecture me

A highly credentialed infectious disease physician?

At a minimum, she’s more qualified than anyone else on the OT to lecture you on this topic

Trying to figure out whose alter this is

I lurk, therefore I am
Wait…What?!?! That’s a game changer! You’re right. The Advocate would never take a short quote out of context and put it in the title as to get someone to click on and read the article. There couldn’t possibly be more detail to what was said other than the 8 words quoted in the title. I should just start reading article headlines from now on to be fully informed. Thanks for the help.

You told me you didn't want to get into a debate

I did? That doesn’t sound like me.

So there's no chance to fight it and beat it, it's either Get Vaccinated or Get Killed.

You sure?

quote:

"For the unvaccinated, it's like letting a burglar cross all the way through your threshold, all the way into your bedroom and wake you up from sleep before you know it's there," O'Neal said. "Delta variant is sneaky, it's a beast and it has figured out why you are no longer that person who's going to be fine. It's killing us."

Still sounds to me like she’s saying that some unvaccinated people are dying from the Delta variant after successfully navigating the waters thus far. If you’re going to speak to and entire region, you’re going to use dread, open terms like “we” and “us.” Do I like the burglar analogy, no. Is is a blatant, government inspired lie to control the sheep? Also no.

The messaging from emotionally raging progressive women is out of control. Maybe you people should actually say what you mean.

What was the exact quote (with appropriate context) that hurt your delicate sensibilities?
quote:

She didn’t give an opinion, she flat out lied

That can’t be debated.

Hold on Skippy. Where exactly is the lie?

Sounds to me like she said that if we don’t get this shite under control, more people will die. She’s not saying everyone, she’s just saying more deaths. (That seems logical)

She also asserts that vaccinations will help us get past this shite. (Medical consensus)

So she then asserts that we AS A COMMUNITY (not necessarily as an individual) we need to get the vaccinations up enough to reach herd immunity and dampen the risk of other variants which could be worse. (Seems reasonable and she’s not saying to compulsorily).

Get the vaccine or don’t get the vaccine. I don’t give a shite. However I find it odd that this board would collectively attack a doctor over such relatively benign comments.

You’re welcome to show us your math on this as well. All hyperbole and and no facts.
Yes, I had a friend who died of COVID. Mid-forties, no obvious co-morbidities and not obese. I’m not saying it’s the plague but it does happen.

you have a higher chance of dying of a carjacking in her hospital garage than dying of COVID.

Walk me through this math Pythagoras.
