Same. And Chinese at a hotel. Oh wait we’re talking about food. :rimshot:

I don't trust with my food the quality of person who seems to be driving for these companies.

I do maybe once a month. I work from home. The lunch rotation is usually a sandwich, salad, or scrambled eggs. Sometimes I just feel like having something different but don’t have time to go get it.

You left out one that I shake my head at nearly every day...
people at work who are too damn lazy to go 5 minutes down the road to get something for lunch.

That's a courtesy to let you know the food is there and where the driver put it. The other texts were unnecessary. But you really get angry over that?

It’s rare for me. I used it when I was sick and didn’t feel like going anywhere.
Definitely a time and place kind of thing for me on the very seldom occasions I've done it.
Sick, hungover as hell, intoxicated/unable to drive with not much available at home, someone working in my home that I can't leave, etc. In fairness, we aren't regular takeout people to begin with. We eat our own groceries or we go sit down somewhere with table service 95% of the time.
One service that's really awesome for groups/parties, though, is EZ Cater. Picking up a bunch of catering sucks, especially if you're running around prepping for a party, so it is well worth the fee.

So, Door Dash isn’t just a food delivery service. They’ll Door Dash anything under the sun….Tractor Supply, Best Buy, Ace, Office Depot, Walgreens, etc. I was sick as a dog laid up in a hotel in California and there was no way I could leave the hotel. I Door Dashed cold/flu meds, cough drops, hydration powders and some snacks from a nearby CVS. 25 minutes later there was a CVS bag sitting at my hotel door. Awesome.

Oh frick off. Not everyone has time to cook everyday with multiple kids and the husband and wife both working.
Yeah we use it time to time.
BTW, have you ever had pizza delivered in your lifetime or do you just cook everyday and night???

I'm dashing sushi for my wife and me and paying someone $6 to drive there, wait for it, pick it up, and deliver it to my door. That $6 is trivial to me and easily worth just being able to continue doing whatever it was I was doing.
Not doubting you but in my experience I think the issue was the menu prices were inflated...then the delivery charge...then the tip. That was adding up to be more than $6. I use it probably once every other month but I live close to a lot of solid food options.

I don’t know how the human race survived without these services.

I was wanting sushi the other day and had it door dashed. Overpaid with tip but didn't have to leave house which is nice. .

The OT fusses about car prices too

What's the draw? And do you just not mind spending 30% more on your food?
This is how the service industry works:
You pay people to provide a service because you either can't do it or would rather spend your time doing something else. For most people picking up food is something they can do, but don't derive any joy/profit from it, they would rather spend that time doing something else.
I started using it at work. Going out to pick up food takes a minimum of 18 mins from leaving my desk to getting back. Billing that 3/10ths of an hour just one day pays for my food for more than a month. While I do like to get out of the office for an hour and eat paying someone to bring me food is actually profitable for me.
We do it at home more often now simply because we would rather continue doing what we are doing whether it is some for of work or fun.
While it is a cliché, how many people will be on their deathbeds bemoaning the fact that they didn't spend more time picking up takeout and less time hanging out with their wife and kids.

I spend about 15 days a month in hotel rooms. I use it quite a bit

I am not lazy , and know how to cook. Also, what idiot spends $30 for a quarter pounder combo delivery?

Would have been a neat trick for him to eat my pho and spring rolls out of my sealed bag tonight
This was 8 or 9 years ago and idk if protocols on sealing bags or whatever has changed, but I would bet money that if someone is determined enough they can find a way.
But I can understand the motivation to want to believe it’s impossible for someone’s dirty fingers to rummage around through your food.

just used Uber Eats to order Chipotle. I drive 8-9 hours all throughout the day in traffic and talk for a living. The last thing I want to do is come home and make a meal. I want to relax and do nothing.
On days when I get like this, I tend to think ahead and just pick something up on the way home.
I think in the last 10 years, I have had food delivered once via the classic pizza delivery. I am not opposed to it and don't think it's dumb, but sometimes I like to get out for a little while. Other times, there is almost always some other need to go out and pick up materials or whatever, so I just make a multi stop trip.

I use it sometimes when I travel and don’t have wheels. Pretty convenient in those instances.

Dashpass is included through one of my credit cards. With that said, I went back and looked, and it’s about $7 extra for our standard order, all things considered. Answer still stands

No motivation needed. Odds are better that someone in the kitchen was gross than a dasher “finding a way” to frick with a sealed bag.
Though I’m curious about your motivation in using decade old anecdotes to inform and dictate present behavior.
