Of course we are in a recession and the Catholic middle class in greater NOLA is being hit hard...

there's also controversy over Supreme Court justice Amy Coney Barrett, who went there, with debate over how the school should be honoring her.

Previous classes at Dominican had well over 200 girls

Yeah, a Catholic school shouldn't be honoring a SCOTUS judge that exhibits Catholic values

I doubt very much that this is much of an issue.

I don’t think it has to do with Amy Coney Barret. I have heard that parents are afraid to send their daughters to a dangerous part of town. Seems as though Dominican has been providing security to walk students and teachers up and from their vehicles.

Mt Carmel & Chappell 8th grades are most likely full.

Are 8th grades a big thing in NOLA? Most BR high schools don’t have them or at least don’t have large ones.

Isn't Dominican on St Charles near Broadway? Is that now considered a dangerous area?

For the longest time my mind was blown that holy cross was where it was for so long and still attracted pretty wealthy and preppy students.

It’s not in a real bad area, but they have had some shite go down near the school in the last few years.

Not it’s close to Claiborne.
You must be thinking of Sacred Heart

If true, that’ll do it. It’s hard to bounce back from something like that. Especially, if new leadership at the school is also changing their direction.

It’s one thing to send boys to a school in the hood. It’s an entirely different thing to send girls to a similar area.

I have a family friend who teaches at Mt Carmel.

If she’s indicative of their faculty, send your daughters there.

Small sample size, to be sure but she’s a wonderful, unwoke person.

That's crazy. They'll be 4A with those numbers in 3 years if that holds up.

All of the Catholic high schools in NOLA accept kids in 8th grade. Almost all of the Catholic elementary schools end with 7th. It’s been that way for years.

For Catholic high schools, yes.

I have zero idea why you would send your girls to Dominican unless you can’t afford other options.
