The modern dog movement to stupid. Growing up, outside, and when we went on vacation, we just left him. The only times he got in trouble was when a bitch in heat came on the block.

If she was outside all day, we would be that neighbor, the one that has a dog that barks all f'in day long.
She would bark all day and night long, so no chance. We like everyone in our subdivision/street

A protective inside dog can save your arse. When we're gone I know no one can break in without dealing with the dog.

Wife wanted one of the tiny rescue puppies we had fostered for a month. I did not. We kept one and he was the largest of the 3 Lab/Border Collie mixes. He turned into a really good and smart dog that she kept inside. After a few housebreaking issues he was fine but he ruined 2 carpeted rooms and the wood floor in the master bathroom upstairs, all of the sills on the bay window, and the hallway and stairs on the first floor. He ruined things with his teeth and nails.
He is a good security system and alerts us on anything moving outside. When we let him out he merely spends a few minutes out before he is pawing the door to come back in. When I am out cutting grass, he will stay as long as I am out. Overall, I would have preferred an outside dog that came in at night and spent some time inside during the day.

I just don't get the point of having a dog and leaving it in the yard. Mine get bathed once per week, flea treatment and they sleep with my kids. They are pretty damn awesome alarm systems too. If someone is in my driveway at night they'll let me know about it.

So the dogs I grew up with working on our family dairy farm.
The breed was developed over the course of history to be well suited as a herding dog.
They belong outside. Do they enjoy human interaction. Yes.
Do they belong inside? No
The nature argument you and I both use are weak mental arguments actually.
Anyone who thinks there is one correct answer for every dog, dog breed or all people is just silly, stubborn, ignorant or just likes to argue.
My dogs are outside and spoiled at the same time. Does not mean that is the correct answer for everyone.

I have a fenced in yard to I let him out anytime he wants. He definitely likes being inside more than being outside.

Mine sleep inside but they have a dog door and a decent sized yard. They can go outside whenever they want to. One of them brought me a damn half alive snake last summer and set it by my feet like look what I found. One of the downsides of having a dog door

Although mine would probably spend all day outside on maintenance and upkeep of his territorial pissings, he pretty much sleeps most of the day.
