A few build pics showing the questionable craftsmanship. 
1. You can see how the back room has a much lower ceiling to help keep body heat in during the winter. It has left over insulating materials on top as well.
2. Wall insulation 2 layers that can be seen in 1 of the pics. In addition the outside skin and the inner plywood wall provides insulation.
3. The roof is a lean to style that anchors into the brick retaining wall. Shingles are the same on my house.
4. The retaining wall has an L shape to it. The dog house serves as 1 "fence" on its end as it is to high for the dogs to even attempt to scale. The wall also serves as the fence on its side.
5. I am considering designing a way to have an evergreen ivy to grow on the wall inside the pen to help with summer heat. As well as having it grow from the wall to the other side of the pen to provide more shade in front of the dog house and help prevent rain from entering the front room.
(FWIW - I myself see several dumb mistakes I made in the construction. But it is solid, functional and is not an eye sore next to my house.)
The front side of the house is roughly 8 feet (the length of the timber. The width is a little over 5 feet. It was designed to reach from the retaining wall to the front of the fence.

And a pic that shows plywood on roof before being screwed down and shows the backside and corner. Timbers go all the way to the roof now that it is completed.

You do realize that not all dogs are large herding dogs, right? You think a 10 lb lap dog should live outside?
Also, dogs that live inside are not dirty and smelly. Dogs that live outside are dirty and smelly.

A dog door is mandatory wherever I go. Greatest invention ever for a dog owner. He goes out when it's cool, stays in when it's hot/rainy. Does what he wants, when he wants.

Yeah my kids bathe their dogs once per week. It's one of their chores and they have short hair. They don't stink.

Yep we have one too. I posted this on another page. The only problem I've ever had is one of my dogs brought me a snake that he hadn't completely killed yet. He dropped it at my feet in the kitchen and looked at me like "look what I found"

My childhood dog was an outside dog. Both my dogs are inside dogs. We have a fence backyard and put them out often to play/do their business, but mostly they stay inside.

We leave the back door open when the weather is nice. Dogs go in and out as they want.

We have a door in our bedroom that leads outside. So we installed a deck with a railing outside that door. When the weather is nice, we do leave it open all day. Our electric is part of our rent so that isn't an issue. We call it a "balcony deck" because it does not steps to lead to the ground. The only way to get on or off it is by the door in our room.
He does not eat Sonic all the time but he does get his own order when we go. He likes Sonic because we sit in the truck and eat with him. He is a picky eater and doesn't eat a lot and is under 10 lbs.
He is pretty spoiled but he is also very smart and behaves himself and knows about a dozen tricks and is only a year old.
( He went thru a an almost deadly bout of pancreatitis as a baby and needed serious medical help. It cost about $3000 for him and for weeks my SO dropped him off at the Dr every morning for his IV and meds and picked him up each evening so he could sleep at home with him. So he is kinda a big deal to us, lol).
A pic of this ridiculously pampered brat and his gf (who is a blanket that apparently identifies as a slutty girl dog based upon how often he is seen wooing her).

Growing up our dogs always stayed outdoors unless it was freezing.
my dog now spends 70/30 in to out and sleeps on her bed next to ours. She has a dog door and comes and goes at her leisure.
