Does Louisiana really have a lack of an educated population (i.e college/vocational)

I just don't believe it. There are plenty of people going to college and graduation classes have been huge the last decade.
I think the issue is that we don't have enough companies to hire and keep these people. Either that or the graduates are leaving at faster rates than companies can hire.

It’s cyclical. Companies won’t come here because we have an uneducated citizenry (in comparison to most of the country), horrible public schools, horrible traffic infrastructure, incredibly high local taxation, and a corrupt government.
Therefore, jobs are at a premium and our best and brightest tend to leave and seek employment elsewhere.
Which leads to a comparatively uneducated populace ....

Louisiana is a blue collar state for the most part. TOPS was a good intention program that just educates Louisiana youth just to see a large part leave the state.
If they wanted to keep the higher educated in Louisiana then creating an infrastructure and business atmosphere for corporations to bring white collar jobs to the state.
I grew up and got educated in Louisiana to the graduate level. It was going to be difficult and much slower to stay in Louisiana and rise through the ranks...I now live in TX with a lot of Louisiana folks. :)

People go to school in LA because its cheaper and easier than most places. As soon as they graduate they bolt to somewhere people actually want to live.

Based on the people we elect I would say yes we have a lack of educated individuals.

And then they leave, as others ITT have stated.
I still associate with only 3 people from my school days who still live in my hometown. 1 of them is a single guy teacher with a pretty sweet set up to save money. The other 2 (married couple) are there for family and the LCOL. Anybody else who I still consider my friend from the high school days is long gone. Most everyone with an ounce of intellect, talent, humor, or ambition left that place and never looked back.
I can't name any reason for a young person with goals to be in Louisiana, unless they're in O&G or have a food addiction.
