definitely helps me, wife and kids. 4 beers with a 12 mg melatonin and I'm completely out without feeling drowsy when I wake up.

You sound trashy AF.

Do you also pump the kiddos full of ADD meds, Adderall, and other shite to control their behavior?

Switch to CBD drops instead of melatonin for better results. You can get THC-free drops so you don't pop a drug test. Even better if you don't work in an industry that drug tests frequently, get the THC drops. Thank me later.

That's way too early. It's out of your system in less than an hour.

I did research on it before I started taking it

Johns Hopkins

quote:

“Less is more,” Buenaver says. Take 1 to 3 milligrams two hours before bedtime.

This website seems to still say it needs to be a decent amount before you plan actual sleeping.

quote:

When to take melatonin
It’s recommended take melatonin 30 to 60 minutes before bedtime. That’s because melatonin typically starts working after 30 minutes, when levels in your blood rise.

However, the best time to take melatonin is different for each person. Everyone absorbs medication at different rates. To start, take melatonin 30 minutes before bed. You can adjust the timing depending on how long it takes for you to fall asleep.

What’s most important is that you avoid taking melatonin at or after your ideal bedtime. This can shift your body clock in the wrong direction, resulting in daytime sleepiness.

The half life is 40 to 60 minutes so it stays in your system somewhere around 2 hours, but peaks just before that half life so I don't know why your article recommends taking it so early.

I don't really disagree with any of this.

I read a lot on it before I started taking it because I was iffy, and almost every website I read recommended taking it before you're actually going to bed.

I don't know one way or the other, personally.

I started taking it after reading that it might help ward off the Covid. Have noticed that it helps my sleep.

I don't. But I will drink chamomile tea before bed to help get more restful sleep.

I don't know about all that, but as a parent of a few kids, it surprises me that people have kids who have trouble sleeping. Are these kids using electronic devices right up until bedtime? If so, that's the first thing I would change.

Right more like 30 minutes rather than 2 hours because after the peak your body is more fighting sleep than promoting it. Melatonin production is a queue to go to sleep. Staying awake past the peak production can mess with circadian rhythm.

I'm not a fan. I've found there's a really short window to fall asleep when it starts working, and if I miss the window I get restless leg and it actually keeps me up. When it does work I have crazy dreams, and the last time I took it I had a bad headache for the entire following day.

I have a bottle on the nightstand. I take it maybe one night a week. Not sure if it works or not, but I do have some crazy dreams the nights I take it. I only take 5mg.
