If the hospitals in your area aren't completely overwhelmed by then, you may be hitting the plateau. Of the people who are requiring hospital care, it occurs an average of 21-23 days after contracting the virus. The severe social distancing didn't really start in most areas until March 14-15. So the weekend of April 4th may be when we know if we are going more like South Korea or more like Italy/China.

The number of those testing positive is not very useful right now. It's still not very good data - not everyone that is ill qualifies for testing, and many people who showed minor symptoms never bothered seeking medical treatment. More still may have had this come and go
with almost no symptoms before the public was really aware of it.

The important numbers aren't easy to find - that's the Coronavirus related traffic in our hospitals and ICU's.

IMO, if the April 4th traffic in the hospitals are approximately what they will be on March 28th, I would see that as evidence that we are flattening the curve. We should know by then if this will last to May or into mid/late April.

Dude, do yourself a favor and don't watch the news, keep up with this on a regular basis, etc. Just find some other things to keep you occupied and the more you stay away from this the more you will find that its healthier for you mentally.

After the jobless claims number comes out Thursday. It’s going to be awful.

Whether a few weeks or a few months, it’s only temporary. There will be a vaccine out this time next year.

Between now and then these pain in the arse measures will be effective and save lives. Hopefully as more data comes in about how this is affecting our country and who exactly is most at risk, we can see things move back to normal and protect those who will be most vulnerable. I do not envy those who live in New York or other huge population centers because they will get it the worst and take the longest to resume normal life. For those of us in flyover country I truly feel things will be kicking back into gear sooner than the more negative among us would lead you believe.

Don’t let the spike in “new” cases terrify you because the testing has only just ramped up. Don’t let the positive test rate scare you more than it should either because many places are now only testing the at risk population who are showing symptoms to save materials. It is bad, no doubt, but not as bad as many people are saying. It will be a blip in most of our memories in 5 years.

ETA: the best minds in the world are working 20 hour days to find new ways to fight it. It’s awesome to think about all of that brain power and capital being channeled into the same effort.
