You are aware of course F1 uses paddle shifting of sorts?

I can speak for him - he does not know this (or very much about cars, period).

I agree. Laggiest shite ever. I always drive my shitty rentals in manual mode, it couldn't suck any worse, but hell...it's there, I'm revving it.

People in this thread are dumb, normal cars with stupid paddle shifters =/= PDK or F1 transmissions.

My 2014 Accord Sport has them. I used them once a day or so after buying the car and never again.
Mi agree with th OP. They’re worthless.

My car has them, and I don't understand why. It's a very basic Honda, not something sporty or whatever. I've driven manual transmission cars most of my life, but I haven't bothered to figure out the paddles in this car.

I've got a camry I use for work and it has then... I use them when i'm feeling spunky..

Has to be the most pointless feature that's now widespread on cars.

On some cars...yes

On a legit fast car..NO and it's a better option than a manual in some cases.

I used them on my last car.

I then remembered I have a penis, so I currently drive a manual.

I can think of many reasons why you'd want an automatic transmission to downshift. Clearly you have never driven in an area with a lot of mountains.

Was coming to say I used the shite outta the manual feature on our Highlander last November in Gatlinburg/Knoxville area.

Paddle shifters would have been even mo easier/safer.

The ability to treat an automatic transmission like a manual on demand is a very practical automotive innovation for power AND braking(slowing down).

Retard OP.

I have the little buttons on my gearshift. I always forget I’m using it when I’m using it.

Me too. If I am in manual mode and stopped at a light, I damn near red line the thing before remembering.

I drove a manual for 20 years before giving in after my last car was totaled. I don't see much point in driving in manual mode w/o being able to easily slide into neutral.

I have never driven a car where they are worth a shite. Having said that I have driven few hi performance cars where they might actually be worth a shite.

F250 is buttons and on the shift lever, use it all the time to lock out higher gears and for down shifts when towing. Very seldom but do sometimes us the "full manual" mode when towing heavy.

Wife's Highlander has the same as the picture above. I use it sometimes for a sporty feel, but after all it is a mid size SUV so sporty is relative.

In a true sports car double clutch system, it is fun and can shift infinitely faster than any human.

Very helpful when going downhill in the mountains. Let’s you slow down while coasting down a steep grade without constantly tapping the brake. Just downshift and let the transmission slow the car down. I have a Toyota and it works great.
