When Dustin Poirier was on Theo Von's Podcast the first time, they were talking about where they are from. Theo said "Covington" and Dustin legit said "Is that closer to Mississippi or Alabama?"

When the wind was blowing from NE , you could fire a rifle down the highway in Covington, Folsom. Lee Road, and not hit anything.

The 2002 Owls who lost district there can tell you EXACTLY where it’s located
EDIT- we were still in a three way tie for the championship, but losing to Bogalusa in week 10 prevented us from being the sole champion. I’ve been to two games there since then, and been there for other reasons, but we’re probably not playing them again anytime soon.

My next door neighbors in Power Hall when I was a freshman were from Bogalusa. They took a week off from school the week of the Washington Parish Free Fair.

I know way more than I should about Bogalusa. I have a lot of kinfolk from the greater Bogalusa-Varnado-Angie metro area.
Bogalusa High had a quarterback in the late 60's named Terry Davis. He went on to become one of Bear Bryant's first wishbone QB's and finished 5th in the Heisman race one year. Legend has it that when Alabama played on TV, the anmouncers would mistakenly say he was from Bogalusa, Alabama.
Bogalusa is also home to a MLB player from the 70's. Charlie Spikes, aka "The Bogalusa Bomber".
He played at Central Memorial High, which was the all-black school, and graduated in 1969, which I think was the last year before the schools were integrated. Spikes was the 11th overall pick by the Yankees. He played one season with the Yanks and 5 with the Indians then bounced around a little. Lifetime .246 average with 65 HR and 256 RBI.
Not much good has happened there since.

A few LSU players from there.
Used to have some old money timber guys in Bogalusa. The ones that are left moved to Franklinton, pine and outside areas.
Bogalusa and its black hole of despair is a big factor keeping Washington Parish from being the natural progression of Northshore growth.

Rogie Magee was the cant miss LSU signee from Bogalusa. He had a solid career but the real star at WR from that class turned out to be a relatively unheralded guy named Wendell Davis.

Bogalusa had the closest movie theater to us growing up. I saw so many great 80s movies there.
