I’ve always been interested but I don’t even know where to begin. I don’t know anyone who has any land anyways.

At least fishing is easier to pick up. Grab a pole and bait and head to any body of water.

At this stage in my life, it is this. I could care less about horns or putting anything else on the wall. I only shoot what I am going to eat. My diet is so protein heavy that eating beef and chicken has become very redundant that eating deer, Axis, elk, doves, ducks, and saltwater fish is a welcome change of pace.

I might would be different as it comes to deer if I still bow hunted because there is so many ways to frick up a bow kill shot that getting a trophy with a bow still means something where shooting a deer at a feeder with a rifle is about like shooting a cow in pasture for me.

almost an exact quote from my dad when I asked why he didn't deer hunt, except the feeder part, don't think that was a common thing yet when I was a kid

My Grandfather is a really big deer hunter ( Bow, Rifle, Black Powder) been hunting since the 60s.

When I was younger I would go with him sometimes . I ‘ll never forget him telling me :

“The truth of the matter is most times you go out there and freeze your arse off and never see a damn thing. But the times you do makes up for it”

He is 87 years old now and still goes hunting every season.

I can think of a lot of things I would rather do than wake up before the sun comes up, put on hunting clothes, drive out to hunting land to walk/sit in cold arse weather for 3-5 hours and possibly not see shite.

I’m good

The way I hear grown men at work always complaining about hunting club and public land drama, I'll pass.

Feel like some of you guys grew up with some really shitty hunting spots I’ve killed at least 1 8 point every year the past 15 years and I kill as many doe as I feel like cleaning (I never tag out. After I get 3 or 4 deer I’m good.) and I’m not one to take a lot of time off to go hunting either. Just go on the weekends and have success. I’d say I’m somewhere between 30-40% success rate every time I go out.

I have nothing against hunting per se

I just find it boring, particularly deer hunting

Duck hunting is more fun if you are in a blind with your baws but I dont go out of my way to do it and havent been in a few years

Same here. I hunted everyday of the duck season in 1998. Stopped hunting in 2000. Most of that hunting was with friends, but at least one day a week by myself.

As far as deer hunting, I went once as a guest of an uncle to hunt in West Texas. Hunting blue quail in midday was fun, the rest was boring. Only two deer taken by everyone hunting that week. One with the other guest of my uncle who was a retire oil company exec who loved hunting but stopped being invited after he retired. He slept in his deer stand most of the time and while awake for 15 minutes shot a 16 point buck. I didn't see a thing from my deer stand the entire week.

Amazing how many men would rather drink beer at the camp over being present in their kids lives.

I went alligator hunting on my GF's land recently and it was a blast, and we got some big ones. But really-I have a hard time killing anything. The dying takes away my enjoyment-and that extends to fishing and I used to LOVE to fish. I totally get the appeal though and readily admit I'm soft AF.

Morning or evenings sitting in a stand on a crisp day listening to the leaves rustle and acorns falling, watching squirrels and listening to birds...even if I don't see a deer, it's the most relaxing time of my entire year.

Amazing how ignorant some men are that think kids don't hunt with their parents. Whole family enjoys our ranch.
