I’m not sure if I was raised properly or so awkwardly that it made me proper, but I know this: you don’t leave the toaster plugged in if you aren’t using it. Mother imprinted this into my young, impressionable mind. I live by that command even today. But I find I am not the only one. When I am invited to one of her friend’s dinner parties I am faithful to check on their toaster status. Every time I look, their toasters are unplugged too. Other appliances like the fridge, clocks, coffee maker, and lamps stay plugged in. Is this toaster unplugging a product of Mother evangelizing her toaster safety message to those in her circle? Or were you too taught that toaster are unique in their appliance combustibility?

I unplug every small kitchen appliance when not in use, except for the coffee maker.

Yes, but only because the cord can trip me up when I'm getting out of the bathtub.

Our toaster goes into the toaster cabinet when we are not using it. So yes, it is unplugged

The reason people do this is because back in the day, the mickey mouse bullshite electrical work in both the home and the device were prone to fire. Technology has advanced enough where we don't need to do that but we do it anyway. I'm guilty.

It is a known fact that when evil ghouls are trying to kill you they will first look to the toaster to see if it is plugged in to use to ignite a house fire. Don’t give ghouls the chance. Unplug your toaster.

Toaster oven, but no. It stays plugged in. I also cook my porkchops to medium rare, because I understand that things have changed in the last three decades.

I didn't start unplugging things like that in the kitchen till my wife bitched at me about it.

That actually applies for a lot of things in life.

I unplug mine only cause I don't use it often and put it on a shelf in the kitchen so that I have a little more counter space.

I unplug the tv, fridge and microwave at night.

Saves me about 9% every month.

I’ll inquire with Jeeves and get back to you.

EDIT: Jeeves says he does unplug the toaster when it is not in use. When I asked him why, he just shrugged and said "That's just what me mum always did!"
