Do you salt your food before you taste it?

Most people taste their food first to see if they want to add salt.

I don’t. I salt the shite out of everything except desserts and sweets before tasting it. I can’t get enough salt. And I will salt a meal several times during the sit down.

I will salt a plate of anchovies. I salt sausage.

Since COVID some restaurants don’t have salt or pepper on the table.
I’ll tell the waiter/waitress when ordering off the menu, “Actually more important than the food order itself is that you bring salt to the table immediately!
BEFORE bringing out the food.”

You realize you absolutely ruin your taste buds doing that right?

I listed to a discussion with a food scientist that explained if you cut out salt for like 2-3 weeks, your taste buds will normalize and so much other food will taste so much better

You should really cut back. Excessive salt can give you kidney stones, higher blood pressure, and even mess with your sleep quality.

Nah. He and everyone else should keep it up. It's good for business and keeps the customers coming.

Keep pouring the sodium and eating all those foods from bags, cans, and boxes.

As a kid, I was told it was rude to salt your food without trying it first.

Whether that’s true or not, you still probably shouldn’t do that.

Depends on the food. Depends on who made it.

I season my food as I prepare it. I eat out at places where I can expect the kitchen to have done the same. The exception would be fresh ground pepper brought to the table. I can't think of an instance in the last 10 years where I picked up a salt shaker for anything on my plate. That said, I drink 1000Mg of salt every day.

I salt my food before I cook it. I taste it once cooked before doing anything. Sometimes I add salt. Sometimes I don't.

Eta
I don't put anything in a dish I didn't cook before tasting it. Really stupid to do otherwise unless you're a twisted frick who wants to only taste salt in your food. I don't care if you salt food I serve you or do whatever you want, but I silently judge you as unrefined trash if you throw salt or anything else in a dish before tasting it.

My grandpa was in the Navy and he used to say there was a famous admiral who would judge anyone he ate with who salted their food before tasting it, said it was rude and reeked of narcissism in assuming you know better than the chef.

Could be an old wives tale, who knows, but I always took it to heart.

Did they mean cut out food for 2-3 weeks? Because if you look at any recipe that has ever existed in the history or recipes, there is salt in it. Assuming it’s a recipe for food of course.

This is why I don’t eat at other people’s houses. Y’all mofos be either be pouring a whole container of salt in food or using no salt to restore taste buds.

I don't even know the last time I bought salt for the kitchen, much less added it to food. Kinda glad I did that now that I only have one kidney - lots of salt is bad for the bean filter.
