Do you prefer freedom or safety?

Freedom is inherently dangerous. To use a non-political example, if there was no speed limit, then I would have more personal agency in determining how fast I drive, but I would also have to deal with those who would choose to do 125 in a school zone. If I want to be able to have the freedom to do as I choose, then I have to be willing to accept that there will be others who will misuse that freedom.
So which do you prefer? Using current American society as a baseline, would you prefer a system that is more free but also more dangerous, or less free but also less dangerous? Upvote for freedom, downvote for safety.

I believe you should be able to own a nuclear weapon if you want.

Neither. Freedom and safety is for pussies.

I want to live and raise my kids in a safe environment. Who wants to worry about having a duel with some jackass over groceries?

Do we have to go 100% freedom or safety or is there different degrees? Freedom can be taken away and full blown safety can be overbearing.

I choose freedom because I would prefer people be able to make their own risk assessments in daily life. I'm in favor of people being able to live their lives as they see fit as long as they arent harming others.

Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose.

But if you come across a jackass who wants to duel with you and he has a sword, wouldn't you at least like to have the option at a fair fight or would you prefer to wait for someone with a sword to show up and arrest him 13 minutes later, along with the coroner?

No, this is not intended to represent a choice between complete anarchy and Orwellian totalitarianism, but rather which general direction you would prefer society to trend in.

Most people will say freedom, but most people will always choose safety. Look at modern America. We don't have the TSA, NSA, CIA and the media fearmongering about war with North Korea and Iran because we value freedom. If we valued freedom, people like Edward Snowden and Julian Assange would be viewed as heroes and not villains.

Ben Franklin for the win.

Freedom 100%. Provide me and my family a common defense and justice system and let me worry about our safety.

All your words are true, but our government can't chance people being totally unafraid. Controlling the message and subsequent solution of fear on our behalf provides our freedom. At least that's their definition and bullshite promise it seems.

I prefer a democracy.

Speak for yourself. You don't view them as heros?
