Yes it is bullshite. They are consistently butchering traffic laws that are in place for public safety while not in pursuit. Furthermore they of all people...police and firefighters...have to deal with the aftermath of bad accidents and know what unsafe driving yields but choose to drive foolishly on the clock and off the clock.
Look at how many folks with firefighter tags, for example, drive like bats out of Hell...if you pay attention you will begin to notice this. I did over time. So anyway it is annoying to me when I see this going on because frankly I don't want to be sharing the road with others who disregard law's when they should be abiding by them or know what can happen by not...especially when they hold the rest of us to a different standard.

Yeah, frick accountability when you hold a position of responsibility.
Hell our state legislature feels the same way. Guess we should cut those jokers a break too.

I routinely see emergency vehicles put their lights and sirens on to get through rush hour stop-and-go traffic on my daily commute. As soon as they're through the traffic jam, the lights and sirens turn off.
Are you drafting them? Otherwise how would you know what they're doing in the jam and then afterwards?

Yes
What bothers me more is when they only have their lights on and blast through intersections.
Most cities have laws where police cars must have lights AND sirens going.

It's fine with me as long as I can do the same thing right behind them

Yes I have a problem with it. Because it's dangerous and could possibly cause a serious (fatal) accident, which could possibly be me and the rest of my family coming the other direction.
I've also personally witnessed them going about 80 down a cross street in Ascension Parish that's 35 mph, numerous times (probably called out to something). The irony to that is they set up speed traps during the day on that same street to prevent people from doing that because this particular street is a cut across to save time during peak times of traffic. This is in response to the complaint which has been that it places people in danger who live on the road. But yet, the cops do it themselves going way over the speed that typical traffic will go.
I'm sorry, but outside of a bomb threat, active shooter situation, hostage situation - there is no fricking reason to be driving that fast and being that dangerous to respond to a call out. I'm not saying drive at a leisurely pace, but man don't go 85 mph down a street that's 35 mph with homes of families and/or elderly people.

As my dad used to say...
"Are you gonna pull them over?"
BTW... must be several LEO's on this thread.

I don't know about police, but I know the fire department will be responding to calls and get disregarded en route so after they blow through a light they might shut their lights off and drive normal. I would imagine the same situation happens to police

Nobody is running redlights for fun.
They’re responding to calls but do not want to travel with their lights and sirens on.

Cops sign up to potentially give there lives for me or any other citizen.
They deserve some leeway.
People bitch about everything these days

Dude, they're not murdering anyone. You really need to pick your battles. Police accountability is a good thing, but you dilute the effort with this petty bullshite.

If they want to not observe the laws of the road, and speed, and run red lights, etc, then put your god damn lights on.
If you don't have your lights on, follow the frickin rules like everyone else a-hole.
That "sometimes we have to keep our lights off to get there faster" is a bullshite excuse.
We have rules in place for a reason. We don't have speed limit signs just so we can tell people to do something. They are there for safety reasons. Pretty sure safety applies to all of us regardless of what you're driving. You're lights and sirens alerts others to be safe around you while you break a few rules of the road. Put them on if you're going to break the rules of the road.

Do you want them to enforce every last traffic law to the letter of the law?
Because you sure seem like you want that.

Yes. Particularly because they spend half their day sitting around in no hurry to do anything.
The truth is police treat citizens like they are beneath them, then act shocked if there is ever any distrust toward them, as if they are this noble group of protectors.

Often times police dont use lights and sirens as not to alert criminals they are coming / nearby. If someone is burglarizing your home, do you want police to get there quickly without alerting the perp giving them a better chance to arrest them. Its all a give and take. I get the feeling of them not obeying traffic laws but a lot of big departments train on how to drive aggressively, pursuits, while distracted, etc. Finally, get a life OP.

Unless in pursuit they should follow all traffic laws. That is not debatable as it is the law.
As far as pursuing, imo you don't put others at risk, usually dozens of people, to take one guy off the street. Use radios and set up road blocks and follow from afar.

How does having your lights on during the day alert the criminal a mile away? Use your sirens only when needed, like to tell the idiot that isn't yielding to an emergency vehicle to get the frick out the way. Other than that, put your damn lights on so we know you're about to break the rules of the road and adjust accordingly to help you get there faster.

So you call in a domestic dispute because your boyfriend is beating on you, and since the closest police unit is not actively chasing another car, you want him to stop at every red light on the way to your house so your arse can get beat to a bloody pulp while he's in route to a call to your house? You don't know where he's headed. Just because it's not a police chase doesn't mean he doesn't need to get to your house as soon as he can. Do some cops abuse this privilege some? Sure. Pick your battles though because most people already complain more about how long it takes police to respond to a call. They don't put the lights and sirens on for every call, but they surely have the responsibility to respond as fast as they can. If you don't know what the situation is, STFU you whiny count.
