Sounds like you need to compromise and pull it out and piss in your MIL’s kitchen sink. That way you only need a little water to clear the drain

My grandparents who would be in their 130's or so, it was flush everytime. Yet, when visiting on weekends, Saturday night bath time, it was 3-4 inches in the tub with women bathing first. After all women bathed water was replaced for kids followed by men. Thus tub refilled on twice.

The reasoning was that they drilling another well was expensive if their aquifer went dry.

This was in the 1960's when most people washed their hair once a week. Women went to the beauty parlor to get their hair washed while men and boys used hair oil daily to comb their hair.

My grandparents were like this. They used to get mad at us when we flushed. My parents used to gather us all up after spending a few days at their house and tell us to forget everything they told us about bathroom etiquette.

It's funny old person behavior because toilet flushing make up such a small fraction of your monthly water usage.

hard to beat those old wives' tales out of them, particularly if it was handed down from her mother, and her mother's mother, etc.

If you don't flush when you pee and flush only every third poop, you will save $3.50 / month on water.

This one time i left piss in toilet without flushing and went out of town for a week. Freaking brutal smell as soon as I opened the door. Took a couple days to air the house out.

Flushing toilet is now on my punch list for when leaving house on trips.
