I just got back from an Alaskan celebrity cruise. On the two formal nights I wore dress shoes, slacks, and a button down. I saw maybe one person in a tux.

In 2002 we took the same cruise (Celebrity is great BTW), On formal night I would guess 90% of the men were in tuxes, times have changed. I don't mind wearing my tux, but it's just another thing to have to pack and carry.

Destination + Port = trash level

The Caribbean ones are really the only that ones that anyone thinks about, and yes, most of them are glorified booze cruises. Carnival is worse than the others (due to the ports) but they're all basically the same.

What is formal on a cruise? Crocs and a PFG?

“Formal” on a cruise ship is the same as a Livingston Parish wedding or funeral. 85% of the trash there is in their nicest PFG shirts and church jeans thinking they’re dressed nicer than a red carpet event.

Cruises are trashy when the ship leaves from certain ports and/or is of a short duration. For example, a 3 or 4 day Carnival cruise to the Caribbean leaving from say, Galveston, New Orleans, or several places in Florida, is guaranteed to be full of obnoxious drunkards. A 12 day European cruise on a Royal Caribbean ship is going to be relaxing and peaceful.

I just did a 7night Royal Caribbean cruise; I missed the first formal night and when I did make it to the 2nd, shorts and a performance polo. to whoever that says you're trash if you don't wear business/formal ware.

Wearing shorts and a polo on formal night just confirms your trashiness.

Dinner is like a 2 hour affair on a cruise ship because of all the pageantry,

I feel embarrassed for the waiters dancing and singing.
Just bring me my damn food.
No one really wants to watch you dance

Yep. We gave it up pretty quickly, and in fact just don't even look at the DR menus anymore. On most lines you can get the entree from the DR in the buffet or one of the other casual restaurants. We find it just easier that way.

Polo Shirt, cargo shorts, tennis shoes. That’s it. However, I DO hold my pinky out when I sip my tea or coffee.

I’m not going all James Bond on a regular run of the mill cruise line but I’ll def pack some slacks and a blazer for the formal dinner.

The only cruise I would ever subject myself to is one where they have cocaine Wayne and other swamp pop bands. If I’m gonna go on a cruise it’s gonna be super fricked up.
