Do you mean changing a flat, or buying new tires and putting them on the rim yourself? I've done both. Still change my own flat or just plug it on the car.

Now doing a coolant flush and fill, you have to go to the dump, so I will pay for them to do it.

I've caught one place. Every other place tightens the filter on so bad it dents the can. Had to use a strap wrench and hit it off. They don't take care of anything.

For those of you that change your own oil, get a Fumoto drain valve. I can flip the switch from overhead, no longer have to get under the car to remove the drain bolt. Saves time and much less mess.

I am in the minority but I do both at the same time.
Loosen the lug nuts on all 4 tires, jack it up and loosen the drain plug.
Let oil drain out while I rotate the tires and then put the drain plug back in.
Change the filter and then lower the car.
Tighten the lugs and then fill with oil.
It helps me monitor the health of my car. Is it burning oil? Are the tires wearing evenly? etc.
Maybe it is because my dad taught me how to do it.
Maybe it is because I ride motorcycles and you HAVE to know how to work on things to ride motorcycles safely.
Maybe it is because I am compulsive about safety.
Likely, it is because I am more of a real man than any of you metrosexuals.

Back in the day, growing up in the south Louisiana country, changed oil in all 3 of our trucks and car. Poured it straight out on the ground at the edge of our property. I'm in the burbs now so it's just not practical plus saving 10 bucks ain't worth it. We used to do all our maintenance as well major mechanical. My dad was a serious hard-arse. Used to cut down trees, chain saw that shite up, load the truck split it with a mallet at the casa. Don't miss then days but learned to be tough.

I'm no doctor, but...you should...not leave your car running while having the oil changed.
I change my own mostly because it's therapeutic. Also you'd be surprised how hard it is for some of those quick shop boys to screw on a filter.

Or they don't change the oil filter at all. Tip: write the date on the filter with a silver perm pen. Or they over-tighten the drain causing the pan to warp. How does one know they put new and not used oil, or even the correct weight? Or if they did it at all?

2 things I don't do any longer as an adult because as a teenager my dad made it seem more like a penalty and never good enough...
1) oil change
