Just heard a commercial from a chicken joint about this. My wife's (no pics) people have chicken farms in Arkansas. Chickens are not raised "humanely". I don't care they are delicious.

Humanely? No.

But I care how they are treated and fed. And I care about buying as local as possible.

So I buy from a local farm.

IDK about that - but I remember walking into the barn yard and seeing my grandmother wringing a neck and having chicken for supper.

the farms I saw have a little shed that is air conditioned to store the dead ones. The driver picks them up and they get credit for the dead ones.

So many words like "humanely" and "free-range" may not mean what you think they do. Hardly anyone is checking on the farms to verify anything.

Personally I wouldn't care except that the fattened-up birds are really too big for my liking. Free-range does tend to be smaller and taste a little better IMHO.
