Humanely? No.

But I care how they are treated and fed. And I care about buying as local as possible.

So I buy from a local farm.

I feel they are the same. If the farm cares enough to treat the livestock well then they are fed well and healthy. If the farm is shite? You're gonna eat shite.

Even if not raised humanely, he put together one hell of a website. So, I'm good with it either way.

As long as they don't have all that shite pumped into them, then I don't care.

The steroids/growth/etc. Otherwise, how can these chickens be much bigger than a normal one?

No chickens in the US are pumped with steroids or growth hormones. It's illegal.

You've never eaten a steroid/hormone injected chicken.

They grow so big because of a few things. Selective breeding and their feed is pretty much perfect for maximum feed conversion ratios.

The myths you believe are just put out there to scare you

I think large scale hog farms are pretty inhumane too. The pig is in a pen so narrow and small it can't turn around- just stand up and lay down.

I don't understand why they say vegetarian fed, when chickens aren't vegetarians. Are people really that stupid?

Nah

I am concerned with how chicken farmers are treated by Tyson, though. It's really fricked. Documentary is out there. Vice I think.

one of my best friends wife is a federal veterinary inspector for some of the Tyson plants in Texas

when I asked her if she eats Tyson chicken, she replied "...well...uh...its not going to kill you."

that didn't provide much confidence

Yea that's pretty telling. They basically keep these farmers below poverty level and if the farmers make a fuss about it to anyone, they give them "bad chickens" or "bad eggs" as a form of punishment. Pretty shitty.

She is being very dramatic.

I've been to multiple Tyson processing plants and that is definitely not what I would think anyone in their right mind or didnt have an agenda say about the food you're getting.

I'm not going to sit here and say it's the best ever but to describe it as well uh it won't kill you is going way overboard. There's an amount of quality control at the plants that would surprise most people.

I'm disappointed in the lack of steroids in chicken these days.

My kids aren't gonna turn into D1 athletes all by themselves.

I'm not too caught up in it but those chickens from Iverstine's are the shite.

I read an interview with the Iverstine's. They said they let chickens out on the cow pasture to eat the worms / parasites out of the cow crap. Must be the secret to tasty chickens.

right...she monitors that part

and she did say that if she found a package from one of her plants (apparently there is a number on the package that she can tell where the chicken was processed) that she has and would buy it
