So their plan is working to convince Americans they are no threat?

Seriously, I know what I saw on 60 mins and some articles I read. I can't find the whole segment, but this gives you a general idea of the problem.

youtube.com

In China kids use it to challenge each other on an educational level. In America, people do dance challenges and complain about stupid shite. In China, there is a limit to how long it can be viewed every day. In America people spend hours watching video after video of shite that promotes nothing productive.

Like other social media platforms, its also used to politically divide.

IMO, I think the long term impact is going to be hurtful. We are already a nation raising a bunch of weak minded kids.

I posted this video last night, but this is how kids are growing up. Weak minded and no respect for adults.

twitter

And I do think tiktok (along with other social media platforms) play a factor.

When almost all of Congress is united on something, I get wary. I've seen some theories that U.S. tech companies feel like they are losing share and control to Tik Tok, so this is all about reining them in. There has also been a lot written in alt media that the proposed legislation is Patriot Act 2.0 for the internet.

It would be a step in the right direction

FB, Instagram and Snapchat should follow

That would be utopia

I don't know.

Do we still have a 1st Amendment?

If so, then Tik Tok should not be banned.

Disagree strongly. If they ban TikTok, I’m gonna have to talk to my kids

Maybe the government should ban the Chinese from buying our real estate and businesses first. Seems like that is the bigger threat.

The CEO puppet won’t have a choice what happens with Tik Tok

If business runs through China it can get Jack Ma’d. They already laid down the hammer on TikTok once. Besides censorship and spying of Hong Kong protestors they were forced to hire a lot of CCP members.

The CCP has hated the US since WWII (see Korean War and now they are more powerful than Russia/USSR unlike then). I don’t think companies based in China that answer to the CCP should be able to list on our stock markets or buy land or other property until the CCP goes away and the great firewall of China comes down allowing information to come and go freely. We have enough problems with one party in our own country controlling big tech, media, and corporations.

quote:

Ma’s reappearance comes after an intense crackdown on his empire that began in late 2020 when Ant Group, the billionaire’s financial technology firm, was forced to shelve its massive listing in Hong Kong and Shanghai. Ma made comments that appeared critical of China’s financial regulator prior to the listing cancellation.

After that, Beijing tightened regulations on the domestic sector. Alibaba, the company Ma founded, was hit with a $2.6 billion antitrust fine in 2021.

Ant Group has been undergoing reform under the supervision of China’s central bank to comply with regulations while Ma has been slowly giving up control of the fintech firm.

TikTok is not controlled by the Democratic Party so they want to ban it. China has said many times that the content of TikTok will not be influenced by an American political party.

Americans are allowed to say what they want about anything American related. Liberals view this as very dangerous.

China is more concerned about protecting our first amendment rights.

I call it Flip Flop. My kids laugh at me. It's corroding the fabric of morals and values. I won't use it simply because of the name of it. Kinda like voting for a person named Barack Obama. Didn't know shite about him but his name was enough not to vote for him. A grown family man using an app called "TikTok"......smdh.

No. Read the legislation. It’s not just about Tik Tok. It grants the feds ultimate authority to decide what is or isn’t appropriate social media for you to consume.

It’s a Trojan horse not unlike the Patriot Act.

I don’t care one way or another… but in reality this is American social media companies losing ground(money)and using American politics to take out the competition… which I don’t have a problem with either
