Do you agree with TikTok potentially getting banned or not?

Some say TikTok is a tool for the CCP. Others say the US Gov't is spying on us already, so why ban TIKTOK.

They are worried about China spying not the US. But yes, you information is already out there if you have any social media and especially a smart phone.

I don’t. They aren’t stealing any more data than Meta and Google does.

That being said I hate TikTok and the degradation of society it has brought.
Damn Chinese gave us covid then added this addictive useless app to our already overstimulated population.

No. Read the legislation. It’s not just about Tik Tok. It grants the feds ultimate authority to decide what is or isn’t appropriate social media for you to consume.

Yes. That app is annoying as frick. Several people I know are always on it with volume cranked up. Drives me nuts.

Plus the less social media platforms the world has the better. I’d take it a step further and also ban Twitter Facebook and Instagram.

I say ban it. It's rotting young people's brains. I didn't think anything could make people more absorbed than Facebook but here we are.

TikTok being trash and the legislation are two different things.

We are at a time when greater controls must be placed on these products. Expectations of privacy and transparency raised.

1st Amendment
Huh? Tik Tok is not free speech. It is a vehicle for free speech like a microphone. It itself isn't free speech or protected by the 1st.

No. I believe in small government and allowing people to make their own decisions on what products (apps) they use.

At first I was against TikTok entirely after watching these videos awhile back about how CCP is essentially using it as a tool of psychological warfare, whilst making sure that the version of TikTok in China, douyin is wholesome and pure.

TikTok Is Worse Than You Thought

China's Evil Plan for World Domination

Then some counter arguments made against the Tiktok ban reminded me of the US essentially doing the same thing the CCP does, and wants to further erode our rights and freedom. Apparently, they will use the Tiktok ban to enforce ‘The Restrict Act’ and essentially, enable the government to put you in jail= for visiting the ‘wrong’ websites.

So I'm stuck in a quandary at the moment, when a few months ago I would have agreed it should be outright banned.

Chinese kids get science experiments, museum exhibits, and patriotic videos promoted to them on their version and it’s limited to 40 minutes a day. That version isn’t shared with the U.S. It’s basically another attempt by the Chinese to sabotage the mental health and development of American youth.
