I went to a pool hall a few weeks back - gf was next door at a nail salon so I was just waiting for her. I played pool by myself - nobody came up to play. In the "old"days I would have had some takers.

Open gambling is far more prevalent than hustling.

Agree. Still get some twitchy losers who just want to play a "friendly'' game, then try to take a bet on the next one. But serious regular players are pretty obvious and out in the open with bets.

Leave a $20 bill on the pool table next time you play by yourself.

Yes, I know a guy who has been doing so for 40+ years. He's in his 60's now and you can still find him in the local pool halls hustling money and he's fairly successful at it. I'm sure there's better out there but he's pretty damn good

In Baton Rouge? Where does he hang out?

I used to like to play pool for money but the problem is most of the people in a pool hall are broke.

IDK - I did my old I'm terrible routine - had some money on the table - nobody took the bait. In the old days I would have had some good games going in the quickness.

Probably so but I suck at pool.

I’ll play you in a game for 100 though if you want

Not sure if I’d call it hustling but when I go to a bar I ask people if they want to play for $5 a game. I’m not bad so I can usually win a few and pay for a round

Years ago we had a lot of hustlers come through Albany, GA. Best of the bunch was Jack Cooney the great one pocket gambler.

I forget his name but there was a hustler from Gainesville, FL who had the gift of talking people out of many thousands and the victims never got mad. I saw him take a used car dealer for $15,000 in a game and the victim wasn't even a pool player at all. This guy from Florida wore overalls and traveled around in a RV with an old whore and a young whore. He called them his wife and daughter but they were hustling just like him.

My favorite hustle was my dad’s at church Bingo where the prizes were cakes and such. The men were bored, so he would take their bets 10:1 that they would not Bingo. Raked in the cash.

I’ve always thought there was an inordinate amount of pool halls in Lafayette
