Went to hs with a Mexican baw who was unreal. Hustled at the bowling alley then went semipro and won a bunch of money at tournaments around the country. No idea if he still does but i remember him buying a trumpet with his prize money and sitting by himself in tCourtyard and just shredding on that thing

It’s like a nightmare, isn’t it?

Yeah, a former customer of mine is always posting pictures of his cue and spread out money. I probably should save this for one of the trashy threads.

Jackie Gleason like to brag that he was not a great pool player but he was a great pool hustler. He could make it look like he had lucked out and barely won the game, then -- the sign of a true master -- he would con the mark into doubling the bet.

Very little “hustling” goes on these days. Lots of gambling still in pool but with social media, most people have a good line on how others play.

Open gambling is far more prevalent than hustling. Short sets of 8-ball on a 7 foot bar box are a bit of a crapshoot unless there is a massive skill difference, so lower ranked players are willing to risk it. There’s enough video pool content out there for people to accurately assess themselves now, and straight pool (14:1) has largely vanished as a format.

Yes, I know a guy who has been doing so for 40+ years. He's in his 60's now and you can still find him in the local pool halls hustling money and he's fairly successful at it. I'm sure there's better out there but he's pretty damn good

Not sure if I’d call it hustling but when I go to a bar I ask people if they want to play for $5 a game. I’m not bad so I can usually win a few and pay for a round

I dated a woman named “fast” - she was horrible at pool.

Still got my Sneaky Pete that ole pool hustler boss gave me when I was 15. He used to take me to the pool halls as a teen to let me run games. He was a recovering gambler but somehow it was okay if he just took a cut of what I made. Good memories.

I remember a place on Jefferson highway in Harahan years ago.I think it was the golden cue.
A lot of hustling going on.

You don't have to hustle in a dark pool hall anymore.
Just sit in the stands of Little League Baseball or football game.
