We were in Houston last weekend for the WBC and there was a group of queens at our hotel. They were dressed in rhinestone cowgirl shite from head to toe. It was a sight to withhold.
I was in Chicago for work when beyonce played Soldier Field and my downtown hotel was a hotspot. I saw some of the funniest costumes I have ever seen, white and black women alike

When's the last time you've been to a NASCAR race?

There is nothing cheap about it. Even after the $25/per entrance fee.. turkey legs $27. Beer $15.

I think we once bought a cow at the sale barn cheaper than it would have cost Pops to take us to this shindig as kids. I know we bought goats cheaper than that.
I used to love going to the sale barn. I could listen to the auctioneer roll and watch the action for hours.

I’ve been to Rodeo I don’t know how many times and never to the carnival portion.

Houston has become a popular spring break destination for black young adults (not just college students) in the last 3 years. So while on spring break most of them stop by the Houston Rodeo. And yes most are very trashy low class single mother raised ghetto folks ... even the ones who are in college or have college degrees.
A lot of people been saying Houston is the new Atlanta. Atlanta is getting whiter (due to higher cost) and Houston is getting browner
It's better to go on a weekday and not weekend. Weekends will get real ghetto and ratchet

correct. My wife and I took off a Monday and let our kids skip school to get down there @ 8:30AM for the fair, livestock show, and booths. And still, by 2PM it was time to leave. The rhinestone cowgirl crowd had arrived.

I was there last week. The prices you mentioned are only slightly exaggerated. You probably got in the first line you saw without scoping things out.
It was all good, with no trashiness from anyone of any race. Maybe I just got lucky too. Walking back to parking lot as another story afterward. It’s the hood.

With events this large, there are invariably a hell of a lot of complimentary tickets that are given to corporations and politicians….

Mid April is the NRA convention, should be a good crowd.

Was this the girl on the tractor?

I never go to anything free. Avoid it at all costs.

indeed. I have no problem with regular black folks being there, even celebrating their own way.
At the cook off a few weeks ago, there was a tent with a live zydeco band and I would have been glad had they invited me in.
it's once you get into gen pop that it gets sketchy

Yeah it used to be a fun gathering where you could take your kids and enjoy a once a year fried pecan pie while walking to go see the rodeo and other exhibitions. About 5 years ago it started changing. Then two years ago it changed dramatically. Just walking from the parking lot to the event felt dangerous. Thugs loitering amongst the parking lot. It’s sad because it was once a great event. But no longer. The lasting legacy of hurricane Katrina still lingers today.
