No Disney picture on your gravestone for you! Newshub
A grieving father in the UK who wanted to put a picture of Spider-Man on his son's gravestone had his wish blocked by Disney, which owns the rights to the superhero.
Four-year-old Ollie Jones died of a rare genetic disorder called leukodystrophy earlier this year.

Before he died his family had made the trip from Maidstone, Kent to Disneyland so Ollie could meet his favourite superhero, Metro UK reported.

Ollie's funeral had a Spider-Man theme and the family's final tribute to their son was to be a picture of spidey on his gravestone.

Father Lloyd was told he needed to get permission from the Council, which then told him he needed permission from the Walt Disney Company, which owns Marvel.

Lloyd's brother Jason contacted Disney and the family were shocked by the reply in July this year.

A company representative wrote back saying it wouldn't be giving permission because "we follow a policy that began with Walt Disney himself that does not permit the use of characters on headstones, cemetery or other memorial markers or funeral urns," Metro UK reported.

So the title should be: Company follows 50+ year old policy regarding Disney property on tombstones

It's tragic that his young son died, but just slap an adhesive vinyl sticker on it and don't tell anyone.

Metro UK hates the US and all things US-ian.

Only story here is that there’s no story.

I’d rock this headstone for my final resting place.

No one hardly ever comes to see a grave anyway and mine would probably be the only one like it in the cemetery:

Epitaph: “And they called him Sandy Claws....”

Should’ve just done it and never asked permission.

Do it. Will Disney go and grab the head stone?

Well, yeah, but England is now a totalitarian state, so the goddmamn local council has to approve headstones before they're erected. There's no forgiveness over there, only permission.

Interesting since Sony owns Spiderman rights. they are licensing it out to Marvel Studios for the Avenger movies. However, Marvel Studios owns the merchandising rights (Marvel Studios, owned by Disney.

Enough said. Makes sense because brand image and it's pretty trashy for the father to later make a big deal out of it.

Too many people think they're entitled to special treatment.

I say just go ahead and do it, and see if anyone has the balls to actually take down a deceased kids tombstone.

Plenty of reasons to be offended by Disney.

This isn't one of them.

Most cemetaries in the US have regulations for headstones.

But I guess that's just capitalism and not totalitarian.
