It's tragic that his young son died, but just slap an adhesive vinyl sticker on it and don't tell anyone.
Don't really get why that wasn't the plan to begin with.

Interesting since Sony owns Spiderman rights.
Sony only has rights to produce Spider-Man movies if they follow the contract they set up with Marvel. Marvel aka Disney still own the rights to the character itself.

"Disney instead surprised the family with an offer of an all expenses paid trip where the family would be allowed to hit each other in a park of their choosing."

Well, yeah, but England is now a totalitarian state, so the goddmamn local council has to approve headstones before they're erected. There's no forgiveness over there, only permission.
Most cemetaries in the US have regulations for headstones.
But I guess that's just capitalism and not totalitarian.
Right it exactly is capitalism. I'd wager 99% of cemetaries in the US are privately owned, and I'd further bet that not a goddamn one of them has a requirement that the local government body approve every headstone.
So, a private company with rules is exactly capitalism. A mandate that a local government body approve a goddamn headstone is totalitarianism.

What if the local government owns the cemetery?

I don’t know of one that monitors. Most in the south are run by the church. I’m sure some in big cities do but all the ones I’ve ever been associated with the person bought the headstone and then it was placed at the grave after it was made. I’ve seen all sorts of different ones.

I'd have just tried to get a tombstone engraver to come and do it surreptitiously. Or just do a small memorial at their home or something.

Well that’s lovely Disney have out right REFUSED to allow OLLIE his spider man grave - they was ok when he was buyin there toys and when he was visiting there land spending his short life there, his last birthday there and his limited money there - but they don’t want to be associated with death—- so kids only matter to Disney when there alive and spending money with them

Why did they go ask Disney for permission in the first place? Just have the engraver do it. Bakeries don’t call Disney to ask permission to put a character on a birthday cake.
I doubt Disney would’ve ever found out and even more unlikely that they’d pursue any action against the family after the fact to make them remove a tombstone after its already been placed on the grave. That would be a PR nightmare.

Father Lloyd was told he needed to get permission from the Council, which then told him he needed permission from the Walt Disney Company, which owns Marvel.

I didn't have to get any permissions from the cemetery when I designed my son's headstone.

Yep.
But, did you notice a little something in the article - the local council told him he had to get permission from the Disney Company. frick those guys. Local governments are full of busybody HOA types and they just have to exercise their authority. frick them all!

Disney could’ve just let the poor people have a Spider-Man tombstone. No one else would’ve ever known their precious policy had been lifted for a dead child.

If he wanted to commission a company to make a custom headstone I have no problem with this.
