I'm sorry, but if a 104 story building is engulfed in flames and could collapse onto another 104 story building, then you probably should have your head examined if you think it's a good idea to walk into the other building.

The first building was not expected to collapse at first. Everyone thought a small plane must've accidentally hit it.
We watched the news as the 2nd one hit live and that's when we knew it was intentional.
Anyways, I was in 8th grade and they brought us into the gym to explain what was going on. We saw our basketball coach run out to his car distressed. His father in law was in the towers and perished.
My parents were on vacation in Europe and we're supposed to come home the next day and had to extend their trip nearly 2 more weeks. They said the people in Paris were incredibly kind to them and everyone would ask if they're Aneeican and give condolences. Hotel let them stay for basically half off and they had several meals given to them for free.

Same with my parents. They were in Ansterdam and were due to fly out on the 12th. Said everyone was nice to them, save for an Arab guy in a bar who was celebrating, but was promptly kicked out.

Mother and father in law were in the city that morning. He had been working a union job in upstate ny and mil flew up there to see him and see the city. Their intentions were to go to WTC that morning then see Statue of Liberty after. They had got on the subway headed to that area if the city and has got a little turned around. They just so happened to ask a "business man" how to get to WTC that they were going there first thing and then lady liberty. This guy told then they were closer to the ferry and since it was such a beautiful morning in NYC they should go there first and let the morning rush due down at WTC. as they got to the dock the first plane hit. FIL says he can still see the faces in the windows of the plane. The boat captain convinced then to get in the ferry and he hauled arse. FIL says he didn't know a boat like that could throw such a wake. The boat took them to Staten Island where they ended up being stranded for a little over a week. Luckily a very nice lady took them in. They still wonder if that business man made it. My wife says that was their guardian angel. It took my FIL 10 years or so before he would even talk about it. We were watching a special one day at the hunting camp and he just completely broke down.

Many people didn't expect the buildings to collapse at all, even after realizing it was a large passenger jet.
There would have been a much larger loss of life if they had flown into the buildings closer to the bottom, closer together timing-wise, and later in the morning.

My company had an office in II WTC on the 25th and 26th floors. Most of our employees were not in the office yet, but those who were all got out. One of our VP’s was on one of the planes that hit the towers. Awful day.

One of my good buddies went to Georgetown for college. I would fly up to D.C. once a year to hang with him. Two of his roomates (Georgetown has like 8 rooms in one house thing) had lost parents (one actually lost both) in WTC 1.

Mentioned this in an earlier thread but AHC was showing tv stories all last wk. One show had live today interviews with survivors & First Responders, mixing in their interviews with videos of footage shot at the time. A former FR said that what he will remember for the rest of his life was a particular sound: they then cut to a video & you could, clear as day, loud "splats", several of them. The FR said it was the sound of jumpers' bodies hitting the ground. As I recall, at least one person on the ground was killed by a falling body.

There was a film crew with one of the fire departments that first responded that day, and they were stationed inside the entrance plaza outside of the first tower that was hit, and you could hear thuds as bodies hit the roof. Sickening.

No, I didn't know anyone, but like I have said on here before, like many other American's it felt like it happened in my backyard. I couldn't fathom what it was like to have a loved one in the WTC when those planes attacked.

Not a chance.
The ferry to Liberty Island is over half a mile away, south of the towers. And the first plane impacted the North face of the North tower, so it would have been on the entire opposite side.

Yeah, I'm kind of confused about this as well.
Hard to believe that Cantor Fitzgerald lost 658 of its 960 New York employees on that day. Difficult to wrap your mind around something like that.

I know. Sounds like his FIL embellished things a little bit for the guys at his camp. I still don't get the stuck in Staten Island for a week comment either.

Flights were grounded for about a week so that makes sense if they couldn't/do want to rent a car or find some alternate transportation.

Still doesn't make sense. He mentions that his FIL was working a job in upstate NY at the time and met his wife in the city. I certainly suppose he could have flown into the city, but driving to/from upstate NY is not unreasonable. I do it often. Also, I live here, and I lived in the city during 9/11. The comment just seems odd. Coupled with the "saw the faces in the place windows" comment, it just seems like an embellished story.

People barely had time to even acknowledge the first jet coming over the city, much less see people's faces in a plane that far away from the ferry. BS story is BS. French brothers were lucky to catch the video because they were already shooting the FD documentary.
