Know a guy whose dad had business there that day and died. One time type deal. Can remember him flipping out...deservedly so...the day it happened.

There was a poster here who was a teen at the time ... I remember on one anniversary he told the story and said that it was easier to pretend that his dad was on a very extended business trip.

I worked with several colleagues whose families or spouses worked either in the towers or near there. I was in the container shipping business back then and most ocean carriers had offices there, or at least freight cashier offices in the towers. A lot of Freight forwarders too. Was devastating to my industry.

Not me, but a colleague had an uncle who worked there. They never found any remains of him, but knew he was at work that day. A year later they had a memorial for him. So sad.

Yes. Several actually. All that I knew well got out unharmed. One of those broke his arm but that was when he was already out of the building and running from the debris when the first tower fell.

I had an acquaintance who was among the dead and never recovered. Can't say I knew him well though.

I was supposed to be about four blocks up Park Ave. South from the WTC that day but my father had just died so I didnt fly up to NYC with others from our office for the meeting and was a conference call with them when both planes hit. I watched the second one on TV in my office while the people on the call watched out a window from just a few blocks away.

Very surreal day.

Had a friend who worked in the second tower. She was walking in as the 2cd plane hit. I can't remember how far she said she had to walk to get out of everything. I believe she didn't find her husband until a day or 2 later because of cell service.

Yeah cell service and land line service was sporadic at best for several days, largely because of of the enormous demand on the systems.

Not in the World Trade Centet but have a good friend who was at the Pentegon when it got hit. Fortunately, he was on the other side and was not injured but his description of what the atmosphere was like there was amazing. Very little panic and a lot of this is what we are trained to do.

My boss was talking on the phone with one of the AIG dept managers at the time the first plane hit, had been talking about 20 minutes. When the line went dead, he tried calling back 3 times before his secretary ran into his office & told him to turn on the tv. That sequence bothered my boss for yrs as he was friends with her, the dept mgr.
