Know people on lower floors that got out, very strange day for them.
Was just doing some reading on the cowardly attacks and there was more than 14,000 ppl inside the two towers when the planes hit. A HUGE % of folks who were below where the planes hit got out. I did not know this until this evening.
I'm no engineer but I am surprised that they didn't aim the planes far lower...Perhaps they thought that the towers would instantly topple if they hit up high.
I hate those people.

I went to high school with a guy whon was on the plane that hit the Pentagon. We were not great friends. More acquaintances but still very sad and hard to believe.

Son in law of a coworker. I didn't know him.
A friend was in one if the other buildings. We didn't gear for a couple days.

If they would've done that and hijacked the planes later on in the day then the amount casualties wouldve been so much more. A lot of employees at the WTCs hadn't gotten to work yet that day. Thank god

I mentioned a little bit about this in the other thread. My GF at the time's father was an attorney/lobbyist in DC and saw the smoke from the Pentagon driving in to work. He was going to a Congressional committee meeting at the Capitol, and would have been there when Flight 93 crashed into it if the passengers hadn't taken it down. She had also been a producer for NBC News, and knew Barbara Olsen, who was on one of the planes that crashed into the WTC.
Her Dad was pretty well connected and heard every rumor that spread around DC. A lot of people were worried that Al Qaeda had gotten hold of Russian suitcase nukes. Her parents were at a diplomatic reception one night, and some guys in suits came in and whisked Colin Powell and his wife out of the room in the middle of his welcoming remarks. Pretty freaky.
Needless to say, she was pretty shook up about all this, and I did my best to be supportive and talk her through it. She broke up with me not too long after that, which I thought was a shitty thing to do. A psychologist later told me that it's not unusual for people who've been through traumatic events to do this. They want to disassociate themselves from anything that reminds them of the event. I still think it was shitty of her, but I have an understanding of why she did it.

These were guys who learned how to fly on flight simulators and had never been in the cockpit of a 757 before. It was luck-good luck for them, bad luck for us-that they were able to hit the towers at all.

I was going to post a snarky comment about how the hell is it possible you didn't know this, but then I realized it's been 15 years. I am 37, so like many on here, I watched it unfold live and seems like it was only just a couple of years ago. What's really sobering is 9/11 is just a date and historical moment to tens of millions of Americans in their mid 20's and younger. Hell, for the kids learning about it in high school, it's no different to them than learning about Pearl Harbor or the Kennedy assassination.

It's slightly different in that 9/11 was so well documented, with hours of HD video. Pearhl Harbor had a few grainy newsreels, and the JFK assassination not much more.

Merrill Lynch lost 6 people I believe. Very sad.
The building I work in also has the company Marsh and Marsh was almost completely destroyed on 9/11.

Why the hell was she walking in as the 2nd plane hit? Seems Darwin Award worthy.

I thought the same, however, I remember very well that most of the news coverage wasn't quite sure exactly what had happened when the first plane hit. Most thought it was small plane and a stupid accident. I think the first one was at about 845 AM or so and the second was a little after 900AM? Most people were just carrying on with their day, oblivious until the second plane hit.

Yes. Jim Clear he did all of the company's voice overs for the IVRa system. It was eerie to hear his voice long after he was gone. We finally re-recorded everything.
