My grandparents had window units by the time I came along but their house was built with a big arse fan in the ceiling of the hallway that kept air circulating throughout.

House didn't have central air just a window unit that we would use very little. Had to be "pits of hell" hot for daddy to cut it on. Had an attic fan in the hallway that we used. If we got to cut on the AC it was never used at night just ceiling fans which we finally got around 1979-80 when I was 7/8 or so. In high school we had no AC at all. Just ceiling fans and two rotating floor fans in every classroom which our stupid asses would stick pencils and whatever else we could find in the fans. One of my dumbass football friends stuck his finger in one of the metal ones. I remember my Senior year of 1989, we had a week of temps in August of 98-100 everyday. They dismissed school at 12, but would always come over the intercom for the football team to report to the field house for practice. So, we let school out because it was too hot, but us football players got to go out and practice in the baking Mississippi 100 degree heat for three hours. Good times.

My first car was built having AC, but that doesn’t mean it had AC when my dad gave it to me.

People.. put your age by your answers, curious about this

Back in the day neither house or car had AC
Houses had sleeping porches, trees, and were built based on airflow. We had fans and the handy window above the door to let the hot air out.

No to both. I remember having to sit in a cold bath before heading to bed. Made sure to not dry off good so the fan would feel cooler. Basically slept with no sheets.

Grew up south of Tampa.
House got central AC sometime in the early to mid 70s. We head floor to ceiling jalousie windows. No window units or fans that i recall.
All our cars from 1964 on had AC starting with our 1964 Mercedes 190D had ice cold air.

We had two widow units, one in the den and of course one in my parents room. Dad eventually got central a/c when I was about 10.

We only had an attic fan. It sucked monkey nuts in the summer. I keep my shite on subzero just from the PTSD.

House no—- north Louisiana and ceiling fan.. did get one portable later…. we had in dining room later..
Cars no… gotta go fast and turn the little triangle windows so you forced the air into the car.
My Dad eventually got aftermarket ac put in that dodge Polaris..
