Your last three topics are pretty concerning

And yeah I’ve been through a couple breakups with someone who I thought I’d end up with. Bummed me out for a few weeks each time but learned from it and found someone nearly perfect for me

The success rate after the first breakup has to be less than 10%. You remember that you really care for each other and haven't seen one another in awhile, but after the newness wears off again the same problems are still there.

No, but I lost my favorite sand wedge one afternoon on the 8th green at my course. Left it beside the green and came back later and it was gone.

Very traumatic.

Lost my 4 wood to a rental car trunk lid a year later (Stupid, Stupid, Stupid mistake on my part. Not paying enough attention).

Damn near killed me.

Yup. It’s almost always a desperation move.

Also the success rates of relationships after a relationship like that are probably 10% as well

Lost my fiancée to breast cancer, she was genetically predisposed

Rapidly metastasized to her lymph nodes and brain

I got to hold the hand of my best friend in the world as she took her last breath

So you could say, yes I have

I was ready to marry this chick once and I was thinking long term.

Bitch ripped out my heart and ran it through a meat grinder.

I was fricked up for a while but found some solace in whiskey and strippers.

Several years later I now realize that it was the best thing that could’ve happened. I would NOT have been happy with her and am glad I realized what a succubus she was before we did anything permanent.

Last I heard she’s still being led on by her douchbag boyfriend who refuses to buy her a wedding ring. A mutual acquaintance I saw at a party about a year ago told me that she’s stopped taking birth control in hopes of getting pregnant and forcing him to marry her. Bitch is crazy.

Dated a girl off and on for a few years. Started when we were kids. I honestly thought we would get married. But my drinking and lack of direction got the better of me.

I treated her simultaneously like a queen and like shite. And she stuck around even though she was clear that I was just an amazing friend who she was dating and liked to frick... But couldn't see a future with me.

Looking back I realize she just wanted me to grow up.

I broke it off by diving head first into a barrel of psychosis that I married and was with for 10 years. She called a few months in begging me to come back... I stupidly did not.

She married a guy who looks like a feminine version of me.

I'm with someone else and we haven't talked in more than a passing manner in years. But any time I see her randomly at the grocery store or target, it's clear I fricked up. We pick up conversations from years ago effortlessly.

She's a mom now. Three beautiful kids who weirdly look like me.

I'm the guy who buys bourbon in bulk and smokes a cigar on the porch every night. There's always a woman in my life, but I have no doubt she was the one I was meant to marry. It's a disheartening thought.

Yeah and thank God I was wrong

And what happened after?

Screwed around for a year, dated a few girls off and on over the next several. Didn’t date anyone seriously again until my now wife about 6-7 years later, although we did casually date off and on for several years before we got serious. Been with her since 2013 and married since 2016.

I remember going into a coworkers office, a few days later, I had to talk about a project.

I had become a completely different person. She took my arm and stared into my eyes. Are you okay?

People were genuinely concerned.

It was that way for the first month. A part of you dies, and you just have to live with it.

Yeah.

shite hurts, man.

ETA: I don't really know what to do. Back off and wait a while, hoping things can be fixed, or go off trying to screw anything with a pretty face and a skirt?

The former lady is worried about my finances, based on what I am able to bring in at the moment. She has no idea what I actually have access to, and that's something I never reveal to women. Do I let them know what I have, or survive on my own merits?

Thought I had a good one over the summer working in Fayetteville.

Felt it going down hill with her. Got a job offer in back in BR. Probably the toughest decision I've ever made.

Don’t do this. This will make it hurt much more. Been there done that. A wave of depression washes over you and it just stings a little longer.

Translation, she was getting porked on the side while dating you.

It happens.

This happens too, especially once the limerance phase wears off in a new relationship.

Of course, and I’m sure there are tons of stories out there about the one that got away. I met mine in college and I knew as soon as I saw her. Shortly after meeting her, I was deployed to Afghanistan. We stayed in touch and actually grew closer throughout my deployment. For whatever reason when I got back stateside, our timing never aligned. We’ve remained in touch and I still consider her a good friend. I’m happily married now, but sometimes thoughts of her or what might have been creep into my mind.

I had 2. Instead of boring you with the details, number 1 just got married about 2 years ago, to her third husband. She has cut all her hair off but is still attractive for 61.

Number 2 left me for a guy that had some short-term cash. He was a lot older than her. She married him, stayed married for 30 years, and he left her a few months ago. She posts a lot of Facebook memes about God carrying you through the tough times when someone does you wrong.

Ultimately, I am glad to have escaped both.
