Nah but I knew some kids that made fun of politicians. They turned out normal.

Apparently the Pres could pardon you for crimes you haven't been charged with. So you got that going for you.

Had a friend in high school that lived across the street from the Parish President in his Parish. He would always say , "if that a-hole can be in politics, I can be in politics." He ran and won for Parish President, then Katrina came and realized that you have to deal with real assholes who are serious asses. He did not run for re-election.....he was much happier after he quit.

I did. Worked on a couple of campaigns, even with different parties. Thought I would like to go to DC after a military career. But I don't anymore. Even I thought I could make a difference, I wouldn't want to drag my family through all the mud.

My ten year-old nephew once told me he wanted to be President of the United States when he grows up. I asked if his favorite uncle (me) could live in the White House too. He said sure.

So here's to the election of 2068...The Fonz goes to Washington.

Some co workers and I were discussing the other day how none of us could remember going to school with anyone in jr high or high school who always wanted to go into politics, except for one guy who knew a guy that from the 8th grade on wanted to be a politician. Said the kid was always weird and ended up working on the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign. Said he’s pretty sure it’s a they/them now. Anyway, who here knew someone that always wanted to go into politics and were they normal or a freak?

Is it me or only leftists want be in politics like that from a young age?

Me. Got a bachelors in political science. Standardized tests are not my thing, so my LSAT scores were garbage. Therefore I didn't try to go to law school. I did campaign work, but it's not a stable industry that leads to long-term employment. I moved to DC in my early 20s and worked as a staff assistant for a congressman. The older hill staffers were almost all single, and if they were married they definitely did not have kids. I knew I wanted a family and for the most part capitol hill life doesn't lend itself to that, so I moved back to Louisiana. I still work with/for governments, but I'm not directly employed by an elected official. I prefer the administrative part of government anyway. I learned along the way that I'm way too blunt and honest to be a politician.

When I was a kid we all wanted to get laid, work as little as possible and become wealthy.

We all wanted to be politicians, we just were too stupid to realize it.

IMO. I think it's the same for a lot of stuff from my era - politics, consulting, biglaw, investment banking - none of it really has as much sex appeal as it did in those days.

Then what are smart kids doing now?

Yes.
Closest he came was to a D nomination for the House of Representatives for our District.
But another member of our church who had known him from childhood decided he would not have been 'in it' for the good of the district, threw HIS hat into the ring. He was much esteemed and whupped the would be in the primary and general elections. All to the good.

I loosely knew Davante Lewis as we were both on Student Council at Barbe. Always seemed way more involved with politics than anyone else our age and presented himself like a politician, and I mean that in a complimentary way.

There was a girl who lived down the road from me in the 80s who was obsessed with Ronald Reagan. I remember one year for Halloween she dressed up as him. This was like 1984 and she was 3-4 years younger than I, so she’d have been around 10 yrs old at the time.

Yup. A fellow by the name of George Davis graduated a year ahead of me in high school. I wouldn't necessarily say that he wanted to be a "politician," but he did want to become either a judge or a US Congressman representing Kentucky's 5th Congressional District.

He succeeded in becoming a judge, and he has been a damned fine one for about three decades now.

bullshite. That was about winning the popularity contest rather than wanting to be involved in politics.

I was VP specifically to avoid having to actually do anything

Didn't know any growing up but back in 2012 while in Panama City beach for the 4th of July.

The day before the fourth on the elevator of the condo there was a kid maybe 10 years old dressed in all red white and blue with a Uncle Sam hat on.

He was just riding around the elevator and pushing the floor you wanted for you.

He’d tell everyone that got on.
“God Bless America and Happy Fourth of July”

He said he wanted to become president one day.

He was in the elevator all day doing that.

I remember one kid and he’s a mayor of a decent size city. Pretty popular across party lines. In his early 40s I’m sure governor is his next spot.
