That is the first thing I thought of when I read the subject. McDonalds had an actual outdoor playground.

And yes I had a birthday party there when I turned 5, which would have been 1976. Dang that was a long time ago.

Had some legendary school friend parties at the local McD's
We pretty much trashed the place and were wild

I went to some. They were awesome. I never had one though. My parents were too cheap. We had homemade "expectation vs reality" cakes and pinatas

There were no McDonald's where I lived when I was a kid. However, there was a guy who had three ponies who would come to your house and let you ride.

The cake was surprisingly good. I had one at the Greenwell Springs McDonalds in 1978. I got a Millennium falcon, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and Chewbacca.

special room in the Opelousas McDonald’s

Is it available for rehearsal dinners, or are they pretty strict about the "birthdays" thing?

McDonalds really used to be a wonderland for kids. All the stools were shaped like characters, the play pens, and the happy meals with legit toys. My own 4/5 year old birthday party was at the McDonald’s on Metairie road in the old Metairie village.

I have no idea why it happened but it seems like McDonald’s changed its stores to be exclusively in the McCafé style. I don’t know if they did that to react to America’s changing tastes with the explosion of Starbucks or to age their stores up as millennials aged up. Or both.

Hell Yes! I had one there when I was 5 or 6. I remember hating their hamburgers but I wanted the cake and ice cream .

I swam in the creek behind our house, the same creek our septic tank drained directly into without any form of filter or treatment

They got a lot of heat for marketing to kids due to childhood obesity which is bullshite. The real culprit to obesity blowing up in the late 90s was removing fats from food and replacing it with sugar

Yep. Hell, the indoor playgrounds were "new" and only started coming around when I was too old for the playground. When I was a kid, they were all outdoors.
