I’m assuming that it’s no longer around.

Was it as fantastic as portrayed?

Went to the one in Vegas several times in the early 2000s. Had some good times there.

I went in the very early 80s, more like just drove by actually since i was a little kid and couldn’t get in.. went there while visiting family who lived in Pasadena/Deer Park.. would go all the way from NOLA just for Astroworld and the Galleria! Also i’ve probably seen UC start to finish in the neighborhood of 150 times.

I went to the original in Pasadena in '82.

The thing I remember most was I had to take a dump and the bathroom there had toilets with no stalls. So if the room a dump you were doing it in front of a bunch of cowboy wannabe baws. So I left and went down the road to a restaurant to take a dump and then went back to Gilleys.

That’s a great story!

It is gone, Mickey tried to reopen a new one a few years ago and for some reason it never happened.

Honky tonks are the greatest of Americana.

I remember there was a baw hangout with a mechanical bull in Monroe. It was one of those hip modern honkeytonks; it was called Tonk 2000.

It wasn’t nearly as classy as Top Gun.

Here is the scoop from Wikipedia:

quote:

Sherwood Cryer was the co-owner of Gilley's; he had many night clubs in Pasadena.

Gilley's ceased operations after a falling-out between Gilley and Cryer that ended in 1989 with the closing of the club. In 1990, a fire attributed to arson gutted the interior. The rodeo arena and some livestock stalls were the only structures still standing until 2006, when it was demolished by the Pasadena Independent School District, its current owner. Only the old sound recording studio remains, on Spencer Highway.

On October 2, 2003, Gilley's was reopened at a new location in Cedars, Dallas. The new club features a 26,000-square-foot (2,400 m2) main show room and the original mechanical bull, El Toro, featured in the film Urban Cowboy. In total, the new club has 91,000 square feet (8,500 m2) of restaurant, entertainment, meeting, and private function space.

Went on vacation with a friend and her family when I was about 7 (around 1980ish). We went to Gilley’s. Got a t-shirt and even got to ride the mechanical bull on a very slow setting. It was during daytime hours so they let us in. When I got home and my mom asked me about the trip, I told her we went to a bar. We had gone to Astroworld as well but I was more excited about going to a bar

No. But I spent plenty of time at Mudbugs in the 1990's.

The one in Pasadena would open during the day and kids could go in. I went 3 or 4 times when I was around 8

That's correct. I had an aunt from Paseadena and she took me and my cousin when we were lads...
