Good luck amigo. Going through a remodel now and all they know is they want “X”. Thing is the logistics and reality of making “X” happen doesn’t even cross their mind. The contractor fairy just sprinkles remodel dust on the house and boom finished. Save a bullet for me.

What is “the definition of women”, Alex?

Chief Architect for everything for the last 12 years. She is fairly good at conceptualizing a plan view but the ability to throw up a 3D model was huge. Of course, as good as the technology is, it makes some things (room size) look smaller and others things (built-ins, cabinets, etc) look larger, which creates a whole other set of issues at times.
The best tool I have learned to use is find a room(s) they are familiar with and say this is the size of the room we just drew.

What program does she use?
Revit?

God speed. Only advice I can give you is select a 20x20 room and claim sole design responsibility in exchange for giving her the rest of the house.

quote:we know about this. Our house was being framed in march 2020. Luckily we had almost everything we needed already on order. Our biggest bump in the road was with a local major custom cabinet/millwork company. They had just built a huge facility and were in the process of moving. They already needed to hire more and were having covid problems. They eventually made sure everything was right but it took a while.
I am a Designer/Builder. My wife and I built our own home in 2020. Covid became a thing the weekend before the monday we were driving pilings. This after six months of design and engineering. We went to construction with ver 81 of the build plan. It was...interesting. We were ridiculed the first month for ignoring the fact the house would be worthless in a worthless economy, treated like royalty months 2-4 as we were the only people in the world who seemed to be buying/hiring for anything build related and struggled to completion the last few months due to materials/labor shortage.

Women are completely irrational and have zero ability to think outside the box.
Why the hellz would you want to put yourself through that?

Nahh, I just use Chief Architect for everything. It instantaneously updates what they call a Camera View as you draw. When in design, I work strictly in plan view and at times would pull up/go to a split screen with the 3D (Camera View) to give her that perspective.

Ours were appliances. We had a placeholder fridge sitting in the custom fridge footprint area for 4 months after moving in. When the built in fridge arrived, the placeholder eventually became one hell of an expensive
lower level garage fridge.
Looking back, it really was shocking to have people calling and basically begging to do the rough in/early trade work in April 2020 to having to call the finish trades and beg them to make time for me in January 2021.

I'm in the same boat, plus my inlaws will be moving in, too. I gave up and let her have full control of the design as my opinion is worthless. My only demand was to build an office for myself with no windows. I let her have the rest of the house.

After doing a new build with my wife I decided to Nick name her double-over-budget. This was not even a custom home and a GC built it back in 2019.
I self contracted a 15k square foot commercial Building during Covid and the process was far less painful due to no women being involved.

Only for you to live in for about a year and a half before she starts to regret the way half the house is laid out. “I wish we would have done this differently”
Happens 100% of the time.

Cable shows regarding food and home decor turned housewives into world class experts. They know enough to cause problems, but not enough to fix the problems they cause.
